Studio MK27 has presented the design of SP Penthouse, a luxurious apartment that spans over 3 floors in the Brazilian city of São Paulo. The interior was stylized specifically for clients with an expansive collection of art and objects, so the design studio had to come up with the project that would allow plenty of opportunities to put these on display. Large corridors are used as smart architectural spaces, and not solely hallways.
The SP Penthouse is conceived as a cozy and solemn space, where the bespoke furniture would be coordinated with the classical design objects – such as the sofas and chairs. Among the selected pieces are original Brazilian, Scandinavian and Italian designs signed by Hugo França, Hans Wegner, Franco Albini, Gio Ponti among others. There is a spa area complete with a small pool, a winter garden and a gym on the top level; a kitchen, a home office, a dining room and a living room located on the floor below and the lowest floor includes the bedrooms.
The internal surfaces are dressed in Late terra wood panels and corten steel plaques, while the floors are garnished with travertine marble in the collective areas and wood in the bedrooms. The living room features floor lighting, sofas and club chairs, as well as end tables. The last floor houses a massive double-height library where the high walls are covered top-to-bottom with a shelving grid. All of the spaces on the top floor have a double ceiling-height.
The pool is positioned in continuity with a dense garden – even having small tress -, in this way creating a tropical atmosphere together with the minimalist place of bathing. The walls were made in slatted wood and the ceiling in a metallic weaved lining.
