Rising up from the heart of Istanbul’s main business district Mecidiyeköy, close to Gayrettepe and Levent, the Wilson Associates-designed Fairmont Quasar Istanbul, opens its doors. The hotel is located inside the Quasar Istanbul complex, whose showpiece is the former Mecidiyeköy Liqueur and Cognac Factory. Built in the 1930’s on then undeveloped land, the factory was designed by Robert Mallet-Stevens, who with Le Corbusier was among the most influential modern French architects of that era.
The Quasar Istanbul complex features two 40-story towers that sit atop a four-story office podium comprised of retail luxury and state-of-the-art facilities. The towers house 209 guestrooms, including 25 suites and 40 Fairmont Gold rooms, with an additional 64 residences. The amenities include, a diverse selection of restaurants and bars, 21,520 square feet of meeting and event space, and the luxurious Willow Stream Spa.
Wilson Associates was commissioned to create the interiors for the Fairmont Quasar Istanbul. The style of the rooms encapsulates the story of two metropolitan icons, New York and Paris. The Dallas-based interior design firm incorporated design elements inspired by the historic city, and the scope also included the restoration of the historic liquor factory, designed by Robert Mallet-Stevens. Thus, the lobby reception is envisioned as a portal between the hotel and residences, while the extended runway to the Great Room, called Peacock’s Alley, evokes chic, avant-garde style and freedom of expression. The designed of the Great room is inspired by the historic liquor factory and features a cocktail bar and eclectic groups of seating. Combining the modernized charm of Paris and industrial chic of New York, Tea Parlor & Patisserie offers a casual and uniquely residential experience.
