Helicopter tours

Here are a few examples of what you can experience on an Iceland Safari!

Tour 1.

Icelandic adrenaline trip. Would you like to go on the most thrilling roller coaster ride of your life? Combine the bird’s-eye view of the capital area with the added excitement of a mountaintop landing. This is an experience you will never forget!

Tour 2.

A helicopter tour to the geothermal hot spot and the Blue Lagoon. Departing from Reykjavík, this tour takes you over the city and its surroundings before crossing the astonishing volcanic landscape and lava fields of the Reykjanes peninsula.

You will see magnificent lava cliffs along the south coast and steaming hot springs near Lake Kleifarvatn. The cone-shaped mountain Keilir stands out from the barren plain. Enjoy an optional stop at the Blue Lagoon, where you can relax in the warm, soothing geothermal water before flying back to Reykjavík.

Tour 3.

Landing on the Langjokull glacier – a cool experience! Our flight departs from Reykjavík and heads for the Nesjavellir valley where columns of steam rise from the geothermal power plant.

We follow the course of the River Sogid, passing over its compact hydroelectric power stations, the oldest of which dates back to the early 1930s.

Before heading towards the ice fields, we fly over two of Iceland’s most popular attractions – the Gullfoss waterfall and the Geysir geothermal area.

Further inland, we ascend to cross the Langjokull glacier, where you can make an optional landing to carve out some fresh ice cubes for your drinks or take a snowmobile tour.

The return journey follows the glacier’s edge before passing a row of volcanic cone mountains to reach a glacial lagoon and a waterfall tumbling through a narrow pass in the rocks.

The desolate black sands and lava fields are no place for a picnic, but flying over this unique area will allow you to see the forces of nature at work from the comfort of your helicopter seats.

The wonderfully symmetrical mountain Skjaldbreidur, with its summit crater, lies en route to Thingvellir National Park, where the world’s first parliament was established at the place where the European and North American tectonic plates meet. The urban area comes into view as we return to land in Reykjavík.

Tour 4.

This amazing journey is our customers’ favorite. We depart from Reykjavík, eastbound to the fertile Thingvellir National Park, and the geothermal area around Geysir and the Gullfoss waterfall.

Our course then takes us to one of Iceland‘s highest waterfalls and across a region of reservoirs and hydroelectric plants before approaching the mystic slopes of the volcano Hekla, which we pass on our way to the unbelievably scenic valley of Landmannalaugar.

We continue over a landscape shaped and colored by geothermal forces, stopping to examine remote mountain pools where you can choose to take a dip in the warm water.

Then we fly over deep canyons, powerful glacial rivers, desolate black sands, outlet glaciers and jagged mountain peaks to reach Thorsmork, a wooded area beneath the south-coast glaciers.

We fly for a few more minutes to reach Hotel Ranga, a country resort where you enjoy a complementary meal. The country’s largest agricultural and dairy farming area lies on our homeward route.

We cross a barren heath before looking down on Iceland’s newest geothermal power plant and landing in Reykjavík.

Tour 5.

Leave the city behind and soar over the wonders of Iceland. Our eastbound departure from Reykjavík takes us to the black island of Surtsey which emerged from the sea in 1963 during a submarine volcanic eruption.

A close-up view from above is a fascinating way to experience one of the world’s newest islands. From Surtsey, our flight heads for Heimaey, one of the Westmann Islands, where the town was threatened by an eruption in 1973.

Volcanic ash covered many of the buildings, while others were damaged or engulfed by the advancing lava. The resulting volcanic cone is still hot enough to provide heat for the island’s houses.

A bus tour and a boat trip with a local guide will give you an intimate experience of contrasting natural forces – unmissable. Airborne again, we head for the Thorsmork nature reserve, flying by waterfalls, outlet glaciers and a glacial lagoon.

Our attention is captured by the fantastically carved slopes of ice-capped volcanoes before we turn back to pass the bulky volcano Hekla, which has erupted many times in recent centuries.

Our course then takes us towards Thingvellir National Park, site of the world’s first parliament, after which the capital region comes into sight and we land in Reykjavík.
