Louis Vuitton x Jeff Koons Master collection was unveiled and celebrated with an exceptional dinner, placed next to the Mona Lisa, in the Salle des Etats. Celebrities Cate Blanchett, Jennifer Aniston, Justin Theroux, Michelle Williams, Jennifer Connelly, Catherine Deneuve, Léa Seydoux, Adèle Exarchopoulos, Chloë Sevigny, and Doona Bae were all photographed by Patrick Demarchelier behind one of the five new bags of the collaboration between Louis Vuitton and Jeff Koons.
Bernard Arnault, chairman and chief executive officer of Louis Vuitton parent company LVMH Moët Hennessy Louis Vuitton, cohosted the event with Jean-Luc Martinez, president of the Louvre Museum, which boasts the da Vinci painting and countless other masterpieces.
Just like LV’s previous collaborations with Yayoi Kusama, Takashi Murakami and Richard Prince, the Masters collection of bags and small leather goods collaborations pays tribute to the art world. The collection features works by Leonardo da Vinci, Peter Paul Rubens, Jean-Honoré Fragonard, Titian and Vincent van Gogh, all transposed on Louis Vuitton bags such as the Speedy, the Keepall and the Neverfull.
Koons has copied masterpieces in his own work — namely in his “Gazing Ball” paintings shown at the Gagosian Gallery in New York in 2015 — and owns original works by the likes of Fragonard, Nicolas Poussin, Gustave Courbet and Édouard Manet.
