Greenland Group, a Chinese state-owned real estate developer, broke the ground for Spire London, an 235.145 metre (771ft) high 67-storey residential tower in London Docklands. It is expected to be the tallest in the UK and Western Europe and will feature concierge, retailing, residents’ gardens and five-star lifestyle amenities including a 35th floor Spa and Club Bar.
Spire London residential tower will be adjacent to Canary Wharf and provide uninterrupted panoramic views over the whole of London. Designed by HOK Architects, with interiors by Argent Design, the tower’s architecture is a homage to the area’s nautical history and its design is inspired by the orchid. Three petals create the spire, featuring faceted glass façades while the angled roof of the tower allows for outside terraces in the premier and penthouse apartments. At night, the roofs will be topped by feature lighting, aimed at reinforcing the building’s silhouette.
Spire London will boast 861 apartments of which 765 are for private sale. The later include luxurious suites, one, two and three bedroom apartments, and three bedroom duplex penthouses. The standard apartments will comprise living areas, tailor-made kitchens and “boutique” bathrooms, while the penthouse residences will feature kitchens with breakfast bars, high ceilings and walk-in dressing rooms.
Spanning over the entire ground floor, a through-lobby is designed to look like a boutique hotel. The area features 19.7ft high ceiling, columns, feature lighting, lounge seating and concierge with an Orchid petal shaped reception desk. Designed to recall the Thames landscape, the lobby is dressed in an aquamarine, white and bronze color scheme with terrazzo flooring and swirling rugs which mimic the shape of the river. Spire London also promises the “best lift provision of any new residential tower in London,” with nine passenger lifts to the apartment floors and waiting time limited to 35 seconds.
Among the five-star lifestyle amenities that luxury tower will offer are: the 35th floor Spa will include a 465 sq.m. (5,000 sq.ft) pool room with swimming pool with infinity edge, lounge areas and a Jacuzzi, and a place for leisure and relaxation whilst enjoying stunning views over London. There is also a 185 sq.m. (2,000 sq.ft) gymnasium and fitness studio. Changing facilities are available too.
Apartments at Spire London are priced from $792,000. Construction of the tower is expected to reach the halfway point in 2018, and completion is scheduled for 2020.
