George Sarkis, a co-founder of The Sarkis Team at Douglas Elliman, has officially closed on the Rock Edge estate at 34 Paine Avenue in Beverly, MA. The historic property last asked $22 million, and it closed at $18,275 million. This is the highest sales price ever in Beverly and the second highest sale ever north of Boston.
Rock Edge is a 28,000-square-foot historic estate with 400 square feet of private beach frontage that was built in 1904. It received its name from sitting above a rocky shoreline, with direct access to a private beach.

A 100-year-old mansion was previously owned by Eleonora R. Sears, an American athlete who reputedly won 240 trophies in golf, squash, field hockey, horse racing, swimming, and distance walking. She was a tennis player inducted into the International Tennis Hall of Fame in 1968. Sears was a well-connected socialite who would often host guests such as Judy Garland, Harold S. Vanderbilt and Cole Porter. In 1970, Sears’ estate sold the property to the homeowner Charlie Benevento’s father. Charlie grew up in this home and it was a dream project to lead a complete renovation.
While the Georgian Revival-style home has been fully renovated with modern, high-end finishes, its original, historic characteristics such as Tuscan columns on the exterior and top the 16-foot ceilings with restored crown molding inside were preserved. The interiors were created by designer Linda Zarifi.
The estate boasts 11-bedrooms and 12-bathrooms. It has a classic, handsome brick façade with limestone embellishments and a slate roof. There are beach cabanas for guests to enjoy the outdoors and vast, water views.
The total property lot size is just over three acres.
