Specialists in the sales, brokerage, and collection management of collectible vehicles, LBI Limited, offers the 1983 Lamborghini Countach 5000 S that has been once owned by Walter Payton. The legendary football hall-of-famer played for the Chicago Bears for 13 seasons and was famous for collecting numerous accolades and leading the team to a Super Bowl victory in 1986. He was given the car in 1984 by his shoe sponsor, KangaROOS, after breaking the National Football League’s all-time rushing record.
This car is 1 of only 38 Lamborghini Countach 5000 S examples that came to the US. Furthermore, it is 1 of only 2 which originally was dressed in the color combination of Blu Acapulco over Champagne interior as exemplified in the KangaROOS advertising photos of Payton standing next to his sports car. Payton was widely known for his iconic Countach which wore the license plate “WP 34.”
It is believed that Payton possibly traded the Countach for a Ferrari Testarossa in 1987. After that this Lamborghini model resided in the Illinois area for another 2 years until 1989, when the car made its way to Texas before being exported to Europe, where it spent the next few decades and was repainted red and then white, likely sometime in the late 1990s. About 10 years ago, this Countach, now residing in Germany, underwent a full restoration and repaint.
This low-mileage and well-sorted example of a pre-QV Countach is available for the first time in many years for $675,000. 3 of the 4 wheels are in very good condition showing no signs of rash or scuffs. The driver-side rear wheel has a few knicks. The interior is in amazing condition, having benefited from being redone during the previous restoration.
The car can be viewed in-person at LBI Limited’s Pontiac, MI Showroom or online at LBILimited.com.
