On August 5th Japanese auto manufacturer Lexus will unveil and even test in public for the first time its newest product, a hoverboard called “Slider” update: See the Hoverboard in action here!
Luxury automotive brand Lexus has teamed up with world leading experts in super conductive technology to create one of the most advanced Hoverboards ever developed. On August 5th, the company will finally reveal its mind-blowing project, which has been in development for the past 2 years. Until then we can enjoy a brief video of Lexus hoverboard posted on YouTube. It gives us a glimpse of the sleek bamboo and carbon fiber board floating over the cement in a skateboard park.
At Lexus, we constantly challenge ourselves and our partners to push the boundaries of what is possible. That determination, combined with our passion and expertise for design and innovation, is what led us to take on the Hoverboard project. It’s the perfect example of the amazing things that can be achieved when you combine technology, design and imagination. – Mark Templin, executive vice president, Lexus International
The Lexus hoverboard uses magnetic levitation to achieve amazing frictionless movement. In combination with liquid nitrogen cooled superconductors and permanent magnets, the company brings us closer to “Back to the Future”. In a specially built skate park, these permanent magnets are laid out like a track and are hidden under the wood and concrete surface of the park’s ramps and other surfaces, according to El Patín. This hidden track creates the illusion that the hoverboard is moving freely around the skate park, just like a regular skateboard. But really, the board can only move over the magnetic track. The board features the iconic Lexus spindle grille signature shape and uses high tech materials and natural bamboo.
