Netherlands-based company Quintessence Yachts unveiled its first official designs for the Aston Martin speedboat AM37, created in collaboration with Mulder Design
We are sure that the Aston Martin ethos of “Power, Beauty and Soul” can be successfully translated into the yachting environment in a very special way. – Mariella Mengozzi, CEO at Quintessence Yachts
The AM37 is the project created by Quintessence Yachts, Mulder Design and Aston Martin. The speedboat does not only draw inspiration from Aston Martin, but a new 11.2 m vessel is the first official boat design to come from the outstanding automotive brand. The powerboat will be offered in two distinguished versions and will boast a hi-tech composite structure alike the one found in the Aston Martin luxury vehicle, car-like handling, performance and comfort.
Available in two refined selections of trim, the 37 foot AM37’s exterior and interior will match the spirit of Aston Martin. Thus, the AM37 S will be a sportyacht with a maximum speed of 60 knots (69mph), and the AM37 is what the company describes as “a gran turismo leisure boat with an even higher degree of luxury” and will hit 50 knots (57mph). The Mulder Design provided the framework of the design to Aston Martin and Quintessence Yachts ensured that style changes complemented the hull’s performance. The two 520hp twin Mercury petrol engines are expected to offer top speed in the range of 50-55 knots and power from 370hp to 662hp.
In similar fashion of the Aston Martin Vulcan, both the AM37 and AM37S use high-tech super-stiff composite materials like carbon fibre in their construction with a vacuum infusion technology incorporated in a scalpel-sharp hull.
We were approached by Quintessence Yachts in June/July to help them in the development of this project. We developed a design brief that looked at the length and performance of the boat and so on. Obviously the performance of the boat was one of the key focuses for us but there are a number of exciting features on this boat, which we call the “Q elements”. – Bas Mulder, naval architect and owner of Mulder Design.
AM37 powerboat’s hi-tech composite structure will include interactive voice control and activation systems, an HD-integrated touch screen with navigation and multimedia system and remote controlled functions. Aston Martin iconic touches include the signature winged emblem on the transom and a rear diffuser. The main deck layout will feature twin helm seats ahead of a u-shaped cockpit seating area.
