Aston Martin unveiled the highly anticipated DB12, setting a new standard in sporting prowess and dynamic performance. This latest iteration of the renowned DB lineage not only exceeds expectations but also establishes an entirely novel category in the automotive realm. By seamlessly blending an exhilarating driving encounter with unparalleled refinement, cutting-edge technology, and lavish luxury, the DB12 transcends conventional boundaries. It redefines what it means to be grand, boldly claiming the title of the world’s inaugural Super Tourer.
Designed to fulfill the desires of the most discerning drivers, Aston Martin DB12 boasts exceptional performance and handling that both satisfy and reward. Its meticulously engineered chassis, flawlessly paired with a cutting-edge 680PS/800NM V8 Twin-Turbo powertrain, sets the stage for an exhilarating driving experience like no other.
Every facet of the DB12 has been meticulously fine-tuned to elevate both performance and emotion. From the meticulously bolstered structural stiffness to the specially tailored Michelin Pilot Sport 5 S tires, precision engineering is the cornerstone of this extraordinary vehicle. Complemented by an all-new suspension system equipped with state-of-the-art adaptive dampers, the connection between driver and car is further enhanced. The Electronic Power Assisted Steering (EPAS) system, boasting unparalleled accuracy and responsiveness, ensures a truly captivating drive. The Electronic Rear Differential (E-Diff) takes agility to new heights, bringing the DB12 to life on the most dynamic roads.
With an industry-leading Electronic Stability Control (ESC) system, incorporating six-axis inertia measurement for grip prediction, the DB12 empowers the driver with five pre-set driving modes. This remarkable flexibility allows for incremental exploration of grip and traction limits, instilling unwavering confidence and safety. In essence, no other Aston Martin in series production has devoted itself so entirely to establishing new benchmarks in dynamic performance.
The DB12 makes a powerful statement with its confident performance. With a 0-60mph time of 3.5 seconds, a top speed of 202mph, and an exceptional 4.0 Twin-Turbo V8 engine, it sets new standards in its class. Aston Martin engineers have meticulously fine-tuned this hand-built engine to deliver an impressive 680PS/671bhp at 6000rpm and 800Nm/590lb ft between 2750-6000rpm, a remarkable 34% increase compared to its predecessor, the DB11.
To achieve these higher outputs, various enhancements have been made, including modified cam profiles, optimized compression ratios, larger-diameter turbochargers, and improved cooling systems. The redesigned cooling system incorporates two additional auxiliary coolers alongside the main radiator, effectively managing the increased thermal demands. An additional low-temperature radiator ensures optimal engine intake air temperatures in all conditions, while the auxiliary outboard engine oil cooler now offers more than double the face area for efficient lubrication circuit management. Enhancements to thermal airflow, such as increased open apertures by 56%, allow for greater cold air flow into the radiators, and centrally mounted bonnet vents above the twin turbos enable the escape of hot air, further optimizing cooling performance.
Aston Martin demonstrates its dedication to delivering a true Super Tourer experience with the DB12 by becoming the first original equipment manufacturer (OEM) to equip it with the all-new Michelin Pilot Sport 5 S tires. These bespoke tires, marked with ‘AML’ codes, feature a custom compound and have been fine-tuned by the Aston Martin dynamics team to provide exceptional steering precision and optimal grip in both wet and dry conditions. To enhance refinement and driver comfort, the Pilot Sport 5 tires are equipped with noise-cancelling polyurethane foam inserts within the carcass. This results in a 20% reduction in transmitted tire noise, contributing to a quieter interior ambiance.
The DB12 comes standard with 21-inch forged alloy wheels, available in three distinct designs: Five-Spoke (Gloss Silver), Multi-Spoke (Satin Platinum, Satin Black, and Satin Black Diamond Turned), and Y-Spoke (Satin Bronze, Satin Black, and Satin Black Diamond Turned). Aston Martin has worked meticulously to optimize the structure of these lightweight wheels, employing advanced simulation techniques to remove excess mass. As a result, these wheels weigh 8kg less than the previous 20-inch offerings, ensuring superior performance while maintaining an aesthetically pleasing design.
The car’s design incorporates Aston Martin’s renowned style and 75 years of DB heritage, emphasizing its confidence, athleticism, and elegance. The DB12 features a more muscular physique, with increased track dimensions and a redesigned front-end that includes a larger radiator aperture, reshaped splitter, and new LED headlights. The car’s wide-track stance is complemented by 21-inch forged alloy wheels, and it bears the latest iteration of Aston Martin’s iconic wings badge. The DB12 also boasts a luxurious cabin with frameless wing mirrors, improved aerodynamics, and enhanced entry features.
Marek Reichman, Aston Martin’s Executive Vice President and Chief Creative Officer, describes the DB12 as a “Super Tourer” that combines handling, dynamics, powertrain, sense of space, and style to deliver a unique performance-design driving experience. The car intuitively understands the driver’s desires and provides an optimal combination of speed, performance, and control. The DB12 represents a progressive step forward for Aston Martin, featuring a redesigned exterior with a more commanding presence and a completely revamped interior with a contemporary backdrop and advanced infotainment system. The Q by Aston Martin personalization service allows customers to customize their DB12 according to their preferences, ranging from small distinguishing details to entirely bespoke components.
The DB12 offers a modern and opulent interior with a driver-centric cockpit and a high level of craftsmanship. The seats are covered in high-quality leather or Alcantara, providing comfort and support for long journeys. The infotainment system is Aston Martin’s first in-house system and features a fully integrated multi-screen display with touchscreen controls. It supports wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto and offers a balance between digital and analog controls. The navigation system includes online connectivity, 3D mapping, and real-time traffic overlays. Aston Martin has also developed a companion app that allows owners to interact with their cars, providing features such as vehicle monitoring, navigation assistance, and community engagement. Customers receive three years of free connected car subscription packages, which are tied to the vehicle even if it is sold as a pre-owned car.
The first deliveries are scheduled to begin during Q3 2023.
