Swiss watchmaking stalwart Audemars Piguet is celebrating the 30th anniversary of its iconic Royal Oak Offshore collection in style with the launch of two new 43 mm selfwinding chronographs. These exceptional timepieces not only pay homage to the collection’s rich heritage but also introduce innovative materials and cutting-edge design elements that set them apart from their predecessors.
The two variations, a result of meticulous craftsmanship and precision engineering, showcase Audemars Piguet’s commitment to pushing the boundaries of horological excellence. By skillfully combining materials such as ceramic, titanium, and gold, the watchmaker has created two aesthetically striking models that are not only visually captivating but also offer optimum ergonomics for everyday wear.
Both models are adorned with calfskin leather straps featuring a textile effect, ensuring both comfort and style for the wearer. However, what truly sets these timepieces apart is the beating heart inside them – Audemars Piguet’s latest selfwinding chronograph movement, Calibre 4401.
Inspired by the success of the 44 mm 26405CE reference launched in 2020, these new Royal Oak Offshore chronographs boast a sophisticated design that prioritizes ergonomics. The large polished chamfers on the edges, a slightly curved glareproofed sapphire crystal, and a bezel, crown, and push-pieces with a subtle curvature all contribute to an exquisite timepiece that feels as comfortable on the wrist as it is visually appealing.
One of the models features a striking black ceramic case accented by a blue ceramic bezel, push-pieces, and crown. The meticulous craftsmanship and hand finishing techniques applied to the ceramic components ensure a perfectly homogenous color and texture, a testament to Audemars Piguet’s uncompromising quality standards. The smoked blue Méga Tapisserie dial adds a touch of mystique, gradually transitioning from deep blue to black towards the periphery. White gold baton hour-markers and luminescent-coated hands enhance legibility, making this watch a statement of elegance and functionality.
The second reference, on the other hand, combines the opulence of an 18-carat pink gold case with the durability of titanium bezel, bracelet studs, and push-piece guards. The black ceramic crown and push-pieces contrast beautifully with the uniform grey Méga Tapisserie dial. Pink gold baton hour-markers and luminescent-coated hands elevate the aesthetic appeal of this model, making it a symbol of luxury and performance.
Adding versatility to these Royal Oak Offshore chronographs is the interchangeable strap system introduced by Audemars Piguet in 2021. The calfskin leather straps with a textile effect, featuring black stitching that matches the dial’s color, exude elegance and refinement. Additionally, each model comes with a second black rubber strap, offering a sportier alternative for different occasions.
What truly sets these timepieces apart is the movement within them – Calibre 4401, Audemars Piguet’s latest selfwinding integrated chronograph movement. This exceptional movement features a column wheel and a flyback function, which sets it apart from standard chronographs. With the flyback function, the chronograph can be reset and restarted with a single press of the push-piece, offering seamless and immediate operation. The column wheel works harmoniously with the vertical clutch, ensuring smooth and precise starts and stops.
Furthermore, the push-pieces have been meticulously designed to provide a smooth and satisfying feel when pressed. When reset to zero, the hands on each of the counters instantly return to their vertical position, thanks to a patented mechanism. The movement is a testament to Audemars Piguet’s commitment to perfection, featuring refined finishing techniques such as Côtes de Genève, circular graining, sunray brushing, circular satin, and polished chamfers, all visible through the sapphire caseback.
