Orso and Bosco, the Boston terriers of Gucci’s Creative Director Alessandro Michele, inspired him to create Gucci Chinese New Year collection. Their faces feature on the GG motif tote together with Alessandro Michele’s lucky number 25. For the upcoming year of the Dog, that commences on Friday, 16 February 2018, Italian fashion brand has also released a campaign shot by Petra Collins.
The dogs motifs from the Gucci Chinese New Year collection are inspired by a pillow that the artist Helen Downie, AKA Unskilled Worker, gave as a gift to Gucci’s Creative Director Alessandro Michele, which featured an illustration of his two Boston terriers, Bosco and Orso. Unskilled Worker’s dogs decorate a wide range of pieces that have been developed for the collection, including clothes, shoes, handbags, luggage, small leather goods and accessories.
In honor of the Chinese calendar’s year of the dog, depictions of the Creative Director’s Boston terriers appear throughout the Gucci Chinese New Year collection.
The image of Orso is featured as a patch on the front of the cotton sweatshirt, brightly colored knitted sweaters, and denim shortsand the GG Supreme backpack, colorful leather clutch bags and wallets feature a suede patch embroidered with the image of Bosco. Scarves, trainers and jewelry are also embellished with pictures of these two dogs, while watches display the dog ‘faces’ on their faces.
