Buffalo Trace Distillery revealed its latest triumph – Eagle Rare 25. This ultra-aged bourbon symbolizes the Distillery’s commitment to tradition and innovation but also marks a significant milestone as the oldest expression to grace the Eagle Rare portfolio.
In a world where the pursuit of the perfect whiskey knows no bounds, Buffalo Trace’s experimental program has played a pivotal role. With a multi-decade and over $20 million investment, the World’s Most Award-winning Distillery has embarked on a journey of thousands of experiments. These tests explore various factors influencing the aging and maturation of whiskey, from barrel char levels to temperature, airflow, light, barrel placement, and beyond.
Eagle Rare 25 emerges as the first release from Warehouse P, a state-of-the-art experimental facility designed to challenge conventional norms in American whiskey aging. Master Distiller Harlen Wheatley notes, “Eagle Rare 25 defies the conventional limits of typical bourbon aging,” emphasizing the unique conditions in Warehouse P that allow for the creation of a 25-year-old bourbon that is both smooth and complex, without the pitfalls of over-oaking.
The marriage of age and maturity takes center stage in crafting this extraordinary bourbon. While time in the barrel is essential, it’s the interplay of factors like oak type, barrel char, temperature, humidity, and barrel placement that truly elevate the taste experience.
Eagle Rare 25 boasts a flavor profile that tantalizes the senses. Intense cherry, oak, dark chocolate, and an icing drizzle greet the nose, while the palate is a harmonious blend of vanilla, dark fruit, and butterscotch. The finish is exceptionally long, leaving behind lingering notes of rickhouse floor, baking spice, and black pepper.
The presentation of Eagle Rare 25 is as remarkable as its taste. Bottled upon reaching its silver anniversary, each bottle is encased in a custom sterling silver wing, hand-hammered to perfection. The display box, adorned with an eagle’s outstretched wings, houses the 101-proof bourbon, accompanied by an elegant glass eagle within the bottle – a fitting tribute to the exceptional nature of this rare, first-of-its-kind release.
Andrew Duncan, Global Brand Director at Buffalo Trace Distillery, aptly captures the essence of Eagle Rare 25, stating, “In service of that relentless pursuit, Eagle Rare 25 is the pinnacle of American whiskey to date from our Distillery.”
As a testament to its exclusivity, approximately 200 750ml bottles of Eagle Rare 25 will be made available globally, starting November 2023, with a suggested retail price of $10,000 per bottle.
