Bulgari Octo Finissimo is the ultra thin timepiece that boasts just 1.95 mm thick movement
Bulgari Octo Finissimo is made up of 249 parts, operates at 3 Hz, and has a power reserve of about 55 hours. An Italian jewelry and luxury goods brand could achieve the thinnest of movements due to the use of ball bearings in much of the places where other types of components may have been traditionally used. After its debut in 2014 in the new slimmed-down Octo case, the tourbillon movements appeared again this year in the new Bulgari Roma Finissimo case.
The Bulgari Octo Finissimo Tourbillon comes in an ultra-thin case, made in 18-ct pink gold, and measuring just 5.00 mm in height. The black lacquered dial features sleek hour markers, except at the 12 o’clock position, where there is an Arabic number 12. At the 6 o’clock position is an aperture for the tourbillon. Plate and bridges are beveled and garnished by hand côtes de Genève finishing, gears are bevelled and circular satin-brushed, screw heads and slots have beveled edges and polished ends. The watch’s octagonal case is the signature feature of Bulgari’s flagship Octo collection.
The entire movement of the Bulgari Octo Finissimo watch is shaped around tourbillon cage, so that the tourbillon cage’s thickness determined the thickness of the entire movement. In creating such an ultra-thin movement, Bulgari choose to use as few bridges as possible: one for the minute wheel and the other for the gear train of the tourbillon cage, which rotates once a minute.
The watch comes on a black alligator leather strap with a 18-ct pink gold ardillon buckle.
