The Beckmann Gonzalez family of Jalisco, Mexico, and the Boisset family of Burgundy and California introduce Casa Obsidiana, a collection of ultra-premium tequilas that embodies the pinnacle of refinement and exquisite taste. This collaboration represents the convergence of two families’ visions, blending the rich history of the Beckmann Gonzalez family’s eight generations in tequila with the winemaking expertise of Jean-Charles Boisset.
Casa Obsidiana pays homage to modern Mexican art, culture, and the storied history of tequila. What sets it apart is the collaborative effort of three masters: a master tequilero, a master vintner, and experts in the tequila world. Jean-Charles Boisset, a luminary in the world of wine, joined forces with Jorge and Roberto Beckmann Gonzalez to create a spirit that seamlessly melds the worlds of tequila and winemaking.
The handcrafted ceramic bottles, inspired by the agave piña and water’s fluid movement, are true works of art. Created by Mexican artisans, each bottle is adorned with obsidian stone, paying homage to the rich cultural history of Mexico. The obsidian stone, known for its cleansing properties, symbolizes Casa Obsidiana’s mission to bring light, passion, and positive intention to every cherished moment.
The portfolio, consisting of a Blanco, a Reposado, and an Añejo, is meticulously crafted from 100% Blue Weber agave, sourced from the Beckmann Gonzalez family’s vast estates at the base of the Volcán de Tequila. Crafted by the renowned master tequilero, Francisco Quijano, these tequilas are aged in French Oak fine wine barrels that once cradled Boisset’s Napa Valley Chardonnay. This unique process imparts a nuanced flavor of smooth vanilla, elevating Casa Obsidiana to new heights of complexity and sophistication. The Blanco is aged for 16 days with notes of papaya, white flowers, and vanilla; the Reposado is aged for four months with hints of hazelnut, toffee, and warm baking spices; and the Añejo is aged for 15 months with a rich aroma of oak, coffee, and clove.
Beyond the exquisite taste and artistic presentation, Casa Obsidiana aims to enlighten the world on the soulful vibrancy and sensory richness of modern Mexico. The launch events on December 6 and 7 at Boisset’s Calistoga Depot Distillery, including a master class led by Jean-Charles Boisset and the Beckmann Gonzalez brothers, will provide a deeper understanding of Casa Obsidiana’s journey.
Tequila connoisseurs and collectors can now preorder Casa Obsidiana online, with plans for availability in select retailers, restaurants, and cocktail lounges in California and Texas. Additional markets will be introduced in 2024, ensuring that Casa Obsidiana’s exceptional tequilas find their way to enthusiasts worldwide.
