Karl Lagerfeld has chosen Pharrell Williams to embody Chanel‘s Gabrielle bag, first man to become the face of a handbag campaign in the House’s history. In December, the musician walked the runway for the brand’s Métiers d’Art show in Paris and now he fronts a campaign film featuring the new bag. In an interview with Women’s Wear Daily, Karl Lagerfeld confessed that he had tapped Pharrell to prove that the bag could be worn in “many different circumstances” and to show that it was “not very feminine.”
I love working with Karl, he was the best part of the campaign. He has a clear vision and sees it through. – Pharrell Williams
In a video campaign for Chanel’s Gabrielle Bag, Pharrell Williams is portrayed in an empty concert hall, jumping up and down from various pieces of equipment — all while wearing jeans, sneakers and the leather bag. He conjures up a small boy who applauds and shows him the name “Gabrielle” written on his palm.
Chanel muses, Cara Delevingne, Kristen Stewart and Caroline de Maigret, also star in short videos for the four-part campaign.
