Chanel’s new fragrance creator Olivier Polge introduces Misia, the latest addition to the Chanel Les Exclusifs range of high-end perfumes
The new new eau de toilette Misia from Chanel opens with notes of violet and powder fusing with rare and precious ingredients such as Grasse rose, Turkish rose and iris. The base is a combination of tonka bean and Laotian benzoin that evoke the era of the 1920s. The new frangrance from Chanel is named after It woman Misia Sert, a good friend of Coco Chanel and pianist of artistic origin who owned a saloon in Paris and was a muse for many artists of that period.
My intention for this fragrance wasn’t so much to recapture Misia herself, but her role as a turning point in the life of Gabrielle Chanel. Misia introduced Gabrielle to a number of new things. With this fragrance, I wanted to convey the atmosphere of the Ballets Russes (of which Misia was a patron] and the smell of makeup from that time. — Olivier Polge
Gabrielle Coco Chanel once said, “We love people only for their faults. Misia gave me ample reason to love her.” A muse and patron to several artists during the 1920s and 1930s, Misia Sert played a key role in the life of Gabrielle Chanel. To support Mademoiselle Coco who was grieving the death of her one true love, Arthur Capel, in a car accident, Misia took her to Venice with its iconic architecture, which would later influence jewelry collections and other lines at Chanel. Misia introduced the designer to Diaghilev and the dancers of his Ballets Russes, among other influential figures in creative circles. Olivier Polge’s first perfume for Chanel pays homage to this period in Gabrielle Chanel’s life in part through powder notes, which are inspired by the stage makeup worn by the dancers of the Ballets Russes.
Misia from Chanel is a powdery floral fragrance and reminiscent of the scent of expensive makeup. It is created for the free modern and confident woman. Chanel Misia will go on the market starting February 28 at select stores. The price for this high-end perfume will range from approximately $150 for 75ml and $290 for 200ml bottle.
