URWERK’s UR-100V Stardust is a stunning embodiment of celestial beauty and cosmic wonder. This extraordinary timepiece is designed to evoke the brilliance of stars and distant constellations. Just as the universe is composed of stellar particles, the nickname “Stardust” not only pays homage to the watch’s exquisite setting but also symbolizes the connection between the cosmos and our very existence as human beings. As Martin Frei, URWERK’s Artistic Director and co-founder, aptly puts it, “The entire universe is composed of stellar particles, making their presence inevitable in all the forms of matter that surround us.”
A true work of art, the UR-100V Stardust boasts a mesmerizing diamond setting that captures the essence of the starry heavens. Adorned with a total of 400 diamonds, the watch exudes opulence and grandeur. The diamonds, meticulously selected from eight different formats, are arranged in a snow-setting technique, evoking an ordered chaos that resembles the natural beauty of the cosmos. According to Felix Baumgartner, co-founder and master watchmaker of URWERK, “It wasn’t so much the size of the stones that was important to us as their arrangement, this almost random design.”
The process of creating the diamond setting for the UR-100V Stardust was no small feat. Unlike gold, the steel used in this timepiece posed unique challenges due to its hardness and less malleable nature. The craftsmanship required for this intricate diamond mosaic was complex and meticulous. The result is a soft, smooth, and fluid structure that invites tactile exploration. Running a finger over the diamond-adorned case is a sensorial experience that speaks to the dedication and skill invested in its creation.
Beyond its visual appeal, the UR-100V Stardust carries an inherent spatial dimension that sets it apart. Part of URWERK’s 100 collection, the watch features two recesses on the satellite carrier. These recesses serve as kilometer counters, representing the Earth’s movements through space. One counter measures the Earth’s rotation on its axis, amounting to 555 km every 20 minutes. The second counter tracks the Earth’s journey around the Sun during the same period, spanning an impressive 35,740 km. This unique feature immortalizes the Earth’s cosmic voyage, highlighting its passage through the vastness of the universe.
