Dolce & Gabbana have collaborated with Swarovski to create a richly detailed and precious tiara to be worn by the debutantes at the Vienna Opera Ball 2018. Taking place on 8 February 2018, the Vienna Opera Ball is an annual Austrian society event which is held in the building of the Vienna State Opera. Together with the New Year Concert, the Opera Ball is one of the highlights of the Viennese carnival season.
To kick off the Opera ball, around 300 young debutants in white ball gowns and tuxedos promenade into the ball arena and waltz off into the evening.
They will dazzle wearing stunning Dolce & Gabbana and Swarovski tiara, the design of which is inspired by the headpiece from Mozart’s opera ‘Le nozze di Figaro’. In particular ‘Giovani lieti – fiori spargete!’ (‘Happy maids, scatter flowers!’), the words sung in the eighth scene of the first act, were reinterpreted by Dolce & Gabbana and translated into a piece of jewelry with a floral design. The tiara is decorated with blossoms on organic curved leaves and is adorned with 702 Swarovski crystals and elements made of six rose-colored enamel flowers.
We are delighted that the 2018 Vienna Opera Ball tiara is designed by our long lasting collaborators – the incredible Dolce & Gabbana. The debutantes have been wearing a Swarovski tiara at the opening ceremony of the Opera Ball since the 1950s, and we are honored to collaborate with these fantastic designers to continue this tradition. – Nadja Swarovski, Member of the Swarovski Executive Board
Swarovski has collaborated with global fashion brands to create the tiara of the debutantes. Last year, Karl Lagerfeld contributed the stunning accessory which was inspired by the famous ‘Blue Danube’ waltz.
