Porsche is taking a giant leap towards the future of electric mobility. As part of its commitment to promoting sustainable driving, the company has announced plans to set up its own network of fast-charging stations across Europe. These premium charging lounges will offer an unparalleled charging experience that befits the brand’s reputation. The first Porsche Charging Lounge has already opened its doors in Bingen am Rhein, Germany, setting the stage for what’s to come.
The recently launched Porsche Charging Lounge near Bingen am Rhein serves as a pilot site for the brand’s ambitious network expansion. Situated just two minutes away from the A60/A61 motorway junction, this state-of-the-art facility boasts six 300-kW DC fast-charging stations and four 22-kW AC charging points. This setup ensures that all Porsche electric and plug-in hybrid models receive a powerful charge, empowering drivers to embark on long journeys with ease.
Further Porsche Charging Lounges are on the horizon, with plans in place for locations in Germany, Austria, and Switzerland. These lounges will be strategically positioned along busy routes with substantial traffic flow, providing round-the-clock access to high-speed charging capabilities. The charging costs will be conveniently and centrally billed, adding to the overall ease of use for Porsche drivers.
The Porsche Charging Lounges rely on cutting-edge technology to deliver a premium charging experience. The chargers themselves are provided by South Tyrolean electronic specialist Alpitronic, with current capabilities of 300 kW per charging point. The future vision for these stations involves even higher charging speeds, with an impressive target of 400 kW per charging point by the following year.
The brand’s commitment to sustainability shines through in its choice of certified renewable sources to power the charging processes. At the Bingen site, the lounge’s sleek design not only complements Porsche’s image but also incorporates environmentally friendly features. The lounge is heated and air-conditioned using a heat pump that operates without fossil fuels, and part of the required electricity is supplied by photovoltaic solar cells on the roof. An intelligent digital building management system optimizes power consumption, exemplifying Porsche’s dedication to eco-conscious practices.
Beyond offering exceptional charging capabilities, the Porsche Charging Lounges deliver an all-encompassing customer experience. The lounge area features modern sanitary facilities, a wide selection of refreshments, and comfortable spaces to relax and unwind. Payments can be made effortlessly through debit and credit cards, Apple Pay, or Google Pay. To keep drivers fit and refreshed, smart mirrors are available for workouts, along with interactive Porsche content to engage and entertain visitors.
Integration into the Porsche Charging Service ensures seamless access to the lounges, which are prominently displayed in the navigation system. The charging price of 33 cents per kilowatt hour aligns with other fast-charging stations within the Porsche network, making it an attractive option for Porsche drivers.
The Porsche Charging Lounges are just one facet of the brand’s comprehensive investment in electric mobility. With more than 436,000 charging points across over 20 European countries, Porsche’s Charging Service provides access to a vast network. The network encompasses over 500 fast-charging sites within the IONITY network in Europe. Additionally, Porsche dealerships worldwide have contributed to expanding the charging infrastructure with over 1,000 high-performance charging points for customers. Notably, China enjoys an exclusive network of almost 300 charging points, while other collaborations have resulted in over 400 charging points implemented in various countries.
