Celebrating the love you share with your significant other can be done all sorts of ways on Valentine’s Day. Whether you plan to go out to a fancy dinner or stay in for a cozy movie night, any time spent together can always be elevated with a delicious drink. Valentine’s Day calls for something more thoughtful and festive, though, so here are four festive cocktails to toast your own love story.
Box of Chocolates Old Fashioned
The Old Fashioned has inspired many variations since its creation over a century ago, and this particular one is made best with the bold Port Cask Finished Bourbon by Cedar Ridge Distillery. The rich accents of port wine round out this expertly crafted bourbon with the added depth of unctuous dark fruit notes. This 94-proof expression is made even more delectable with the addition of chocolate bitters and demerara syrup in this take on the classic old-fashioned. Cedar Ridge re-releases this expression every February, just in time for the cold weather and this romantic holiday. Chocolates are a quintessential Valentine’s Day gift, and you can enjoy both a box and a glass with this tasty drink.
Hibisco Disco Margarita
This unique take on the ever crowd-pleasing margarita is made with Kilinga Silvestre bacanora, a lesser-known traditional agave spirit with a profile falling between tequila and mezcal. To make this bright pink drink, simply infuse the bacanora with hibiscus tea, then shake it with elderflower liqueur and fresh lime juice and strain into a coupe glass for a classy final touch. The result is a vibrant and complex drink that reinvents the classic margarita to fit Valentine’s Day festivities with its lively appearance and floral flavor.
The Raj Mamba
This next libation is credited to Rajat Parr of MINA Group’s Clock Bar at the St. Francis Hotel in San Francisco. Rajat (“Raj”) Parr is an Indian-American sommelier turned winemaker who oversaw the Michael Mina restaurant group’s wine program before launching his own wineries in Oregon and the Central Coast of California. This is not exactly a mixed drink, per se, but the combination of champagne and Zomoz mezcal makes for an elegant and nuanced combination sure to bring some luxury to your Valentine’s Day. The earthy and smoky qualities of mezcal contribute a warm, elongated finish, which is cut and cleansed with a dry sip of champagne. Special occasions call for bubbly, and this dynamic duo makes for an extra memorable way to celebrate love.
If you are not much of a home bartender, this next cocktail is your best friend. It’s made with Fresh Victor, a line of mixers specifically created to remove the effort from making drinks and place the focus back onto whom you share them with. Although the Blinker is a classic cocktail, Fresh Victor’s iteration puts a twist on it with its Grapefruit and Sea Salt mixer. Just one ounce of the mixer shaken with a quarter-ounce of raspberry syrup (or grenadine) and two ounces of rye whiskey make a proper, bar-level drink in no time. The ultra-pink color will be an instant hit for you and your Valentine and the quality of the cocktail, itself, even moreso.
