Sports car manufacturer Porsche and Frauscher Shipyard have unveiled the first production model of the Frauscher x Porsche 850 Fantom Air. This electric sports boat, equipped with the cutting-edge drive technology of the upcoming all-electric Porsche Macan, recently made its debut with initial test drives on the picturesque Lake Garda in Italy. The Frauscher x Porsche 850 Fantom Air promises to redefine the world of electric boating, offering a harmonious blend of performance, luxury, and sustainability.
The electric sports boat boasts the adaptation and further development of Porsche’s drive technology, originally designed for road vehicles, for use on water. The powertrain includes a state-of-the-art permanently excited synchronous electric motor (PSM) with a peak power of 400 kW, a shaft that transmits power to the marine Z-drive, and a lithium-ion battery with a gross capacity of 100 kWh. This technological prowess results in exceptional handling characteristics, top speeds of up to 85 km/h (46 kn), and impressive ranges of over 100 kilometers at hull speed.
The Frauscher x Porsche eFantom features pre-programmed driving modes such as Docking, Range, Sport, and Sport Plus. These modes not only alter the throttle response but also set different speed limits, catering to various driving scenarios. The innovative boat allows for versatile usage, from harbor cruising to high-speed journeys, providing customers with a customizable and exhilarating experience.
Thanks to Porsche’s 800-volt technology, the electric boat can be charged at over 250 kW of DC current at fast-charging stations, achieving an impressive 10% to 80% charge in under 30 minutes under ideal conditions. The inclusion of an 11-kW AC charger on board ensures flexibility for conventional household and high-voltage socket charging, making it convenient for users across different settings and locations.
Studio F. A. Porsche, responsible for the design of the helmstand, has created a sleek and stylish interior. The high-gloss black instrument panel, winglet-shaped side ends, and analog gauges contribute to a sports car-inspired look. The boat features two front seats designed for E-Performance, offering lateral support and comfort. The boat’s exterior remains true to the Frauscher 858 Fantom Air day cruiser, providing ample space for up to nine passengers, a swimming platform, and a lounge area with sunbathing pads.
Just like Porsche cars, the Frauscher x Porsche 850 Fantom Air embraces individuality. Customers can choose from a wide range of colors for the upholstery, hull, and deck. The boat is also equipped with folding bimini tops, a high-end audio system, and various amenities for a personalized and luxurious experience on the water.
The official world premiere of the Frauscher x Porsche 850 Fantom Air is scheduled for January 2024 at the “boot” trade fair in Düsseldorf. The initial plan includes the production of an exclusive first edition comprising 25 units, available for order starting at €561,700 net. These limited-edition boats are set to be delivered to customers from 2024, marking a significant milestone in the electric boating industry.
