Gucci has unveiled the collection of ready-to-wear and accessories that drew inspiration from the Dapper Dan archive created with the House’s refined materials. Featuring a new yellow Gucci logo, the pieces were shot by Ari Marcopoulos, and are available on Gucci.com and in selected stores.
In the ‘80s and ‘90s, Dapper Dan, a well-known Harlem couturier, created his own kind of sampling by reconstructing luxury goods into coveted “knockups.” Now, through his and Alessandro Michele’s artistic vision, a contemporary interpretation of streetwear and accessories has been developed for a new generation. A mix of unisex, men’s and women’s styles and accessories are introduced in specially selected materials with a Gucci-Dapper Dan dedicated label.
Exploring the interaction of design between Dapper Dan and creative director Alessandro Michele, the new collection of ready-to-wear and accessories features tracksuits in luxurious fabrics, denim with late 80s washes and fits and GG canvas jacquard jackets.
To mark the launch of the special collection, a special episode of the Gucci Podcast channel features the designer from Harlem in conversation with the editor-in-chief of Vestoj, Anja Cronberg. Together they talk about how he first began creating made-to-order pieces in the 80s, his ongoing collaboration with Gucci, including the reopening of his atelier in Harlem, and the new special collection.
