According to the Chinese zodiac, 2021 is the Year of the Ox. Beginning on February 12th, the Metal Ox year is traditionally associated with openness, hope, and confidence. In that spirit, Hennessy has partnered with world-renowned Chinese artist Liu Wei for this year’s Lunar New Year limited release of Hennessy V.S.O.P Privilège and X.O to commemorate the occasion.
For Hennessy, Liu Wei created an artwork called “SPRING” – a kaleidoscopic painting that pays tribute to the season of rebirth. Mimicking the depth of Hennessy cognacs, the painting appears spontaneous and organic; its vibrant shades of fuchsia, blue, green, and yellow buoy the spirit.
The artist’s choice of medium – like his recurring shapes – is the fruit of reflection and resistance, a gesture of self-expression and a creative metaphor for the many directions one may choose to take in life.
Liu Wei has dressed up the original bottle design of Hennessy V.S.O.P Privilège and X.O with a color palette inspired by “SPRING”. The colors reflect the artist’s trademark artistic style.
An ode to Cognac and the iconic work of Hennessy’s master blender, the bottle work displays the fusing together of the colors red and purple, in the same way, that the blender intertwines together the different blends of eaux-de-vie.
As a prolongation of Hennessy X Liu Wei collaboration, two cocktails were inspired by the artwork “SPRING”. Hennessy Spring Freshness and Hennessy Spring Blossom call upon the spontaneous, joyous nature of the season of rebirth.
On February 18, Hennessy will host X.O O.X – a Virtual Charity Celebration that spotlights influential icons, entrepreneurs, and small business owners in the Asian American and Pacific Islander community who embody the resilient drive of the ox in their pursuit of greatness. Hennessy Virtual Charity Celebration will be hosted by Malaysian-British actor, model, and television host Henry Golding.
