Hotel Marcel, the nation’s first net-zero and Passive House certified hotel, has just started accepting reservations ahead of its opening in April 2022. Designed by New York City-based Dutch East Design and architecture firm Becker + Becker, the new hotel will give new life to the long-vacant landmark Marcel Breuer Building in New Haven, Connecticut, former home to the Pirelli Armstrong Rubber Company Headquarters.
Hotel Marcel sets the standard for a new era of environmentally conscious hospitality. Its green energy initiatives include a Power Over Ethernet lighting system, solar panels that create 100% of the buildings heat and hot water power, electric car charging stations, and more.
Powered solely by the sun, Hotel Marcel is the first hotel in the country to achieve Passive House and LEED Platinum certification.
The first all-electric hotel in the United States features 165 guest rooms and nine historic suites, thoughtfully designed around the original floor plans of the offices that once inhabited the space. Besides boasting dramatic views of Long Island Sound, historic New Haven, and Yale University, the rooms are equipped with touchpad controls that allow guests to control room temperature, lighting, and automatic shades.
Hotel Marcel’s on-site restaurant and bar, BLDG, serves a menu of new American cuisine with a curated wine list of biodynamic and organic wines. This stunning bar features a back-lit perforated metal sculptural element with lighting by Rich Brilliant Willing.
The hotel curates a heavy art program, that primarily highlighting female artists with a nod to the pioneering work at the Bauhaus movement. 7,000 square feet of actionable space including four conference rooms and a flexible event space are perfect for meetings, gatherings, and life celebrations of all sizes.
