IWC Schaffhausen expands its “Colors of TOP GUN” collection. Launched in 2022, this collection pays homage to the rich heritage of naval aviation, drawing inspiration from the color codes associated with this dynamic world. The Swiss luxury watch manufacturer introduces two new models that showcase its mastery in crafting colored ceramic watches with monochromatic brilliance – the Pilot’s Watch Timezoner TOP GUN Woodland and the Pilot’s Watch Chronograph 41 TOP GUN Mojave Desert.
IWC’s legacy in ceramic watchmaking traces back to 1986 with the introduction of the Da Vinci Perpetual Calendar Chronograph, the world’s first wristwatch with a black zirconium oxide ceramic case. The company continues to push the boundaries, exploring different ceramic colors such as white, blue, and now green and sand. The exact mixing ratio of metallic oxides determines the final color, requiring precise control over manufacturing parameters.
Pilot’s Watch Timezoner TOP GUN Woodland
The Pilot’s Watch Timezoner TOP GUN Woodland (Ref. IW395601) stands out as a pioneer in the realm of colored ceramic timepieces. Its dark green ceramic case, reminiscent of the flight suits worn by TOPGUN pilots, reflects the vast forest landscapes they navigate. The meticulous engineering process extends to every component, from the dial to the rubber strap, ensuring a seamless and captivating monochromatic design.
One of the key features of this model is the patented Timezoner® function, allowing effortless time zone changes with a simple press and turn of the rotating bezel. The green ceramic city ring, combined with a matte black Ceratanium® case ring and crown, adds a touch of sophistication to the watch. Powered by the IWC-manufactured 82760 caliber, this automatic movement boasts a 60-hour power reserve and can be admired through the tinted sapphire case back.
Pilot’s Watch Chronograph 41 TOP GUN Mojave Desert
The Pilot’s Watch Chronograph 41 TOP GUN Mojave Desert (Ref. IW389402) makes a statement with its sand-colored ceramic case, inspired by the earth tones of naval aviator flight suits and the Mojave Desert’s landscape. The harmonious blend of dark brown dial, hands, luminescent material, and rubber strap with textile inlay showcases IWC’s commitment to aesthetic coherence.
Powered by the IWC-manufactured 69380 caliber, this chronograph movement, with its classic column-wheel design, comprises 242 individual parts. The vertical dial layout enhances readability, positioning the stopped minutes at the 12 o’clock position. The use of matte grey titanium for the crown, chronograph pushers, and case back adds a distinctive touch. The movement is protected from magnetic fields, ensuring precision and reliability.
