Makoto, one of South Florida’s top Japanese restaurants, is now situated within the recently opened third floor of Bal Harbour Shops, the most productive shopping center in the world.

American restaurateur Stephen Starr opened Makoto in Miami Beach in 2011. Helmed by Chef and Partner Makoto Okuwa, it become a cherished and personal place for many Miamians and visitors, offering a superb restaurant experience. Now, the venue is ready to deliver a whole new immersion in a new space designed by India Mahdavi. The Paris-based architect and designer created a contemporary yet warm indoor-outdoor layout characterized by a more feminine, and magical style for the Makoto experience.

India Mahdavi brings her cross cultural concept to Makoto. The venue includes the French brasserie, the Japanese restaurant, and the American diner under one roof. The space features a soft color scheme of coral pink, saffron, and sandalwood along with flora motifs.
The outside terrace is furnished with nostalgic 1930’s-era chairs and is decorated with palm trees. Makoto’s relocation features indoor and outdoor seating for a total of 244 guests. It has an expanded alfresco terrace and bar, and a new, exclusive sushi counter that can seat 16 guests.

Chef Okuwa, who is known as a master of Edomae-style sushi, will provide his much sought-after culinary skills, plating the freshest seafood to charcoal robata grill skewers to his signature Spicy Tuna Crispy Rice.
