Oscar-winning American actress and film producer Jessica Chastain stars in the Gucci High Jewelry campaign portraying the stories behind the maximalist pieces of Alessandro Michele’s third Hortus Deliciarum High Jewelry collection.
In the film and photographs, Jessica Chastain plays an eclectic collector of mementos and memories. Her home reveals an opulent collection of souvenirs stashed throughout her life’s travels. Mimicking the splendor of a voyage, these special items, masterfully crafted with precious gemstones including emeralds, aquamarines, opals, and rubellites, tell stories of faraway places.
Art directed by Ezra Petronio and photographed by Mert & Marcus, the film and its accompanying images combine tightly-shot portraits with atmospheric wider shots to reveal hints of the character’s unpredictability and the opulence of her home.
Inspired by the 18th-century Grand Tour trips, Alessandro Michele creates 200 poetic pieces. Five destinations and five chapters define this travelogue, with each meticulously made creation containing the charm of a place through intricate designs and magnificent gemstones. In the campaign, it is Jessica Chastain’s character who has seemingly taken this trip to extraordinary lands.
Named Hortus Deliciarum, Latin for ‘Garden of Delights’, the Gucci High Jewelry collection draws on the symbolic motifs that are special to Alessandro Michele and Gucci, taken from the extensive and diverse canon of the House’s iconography. Each gemstone has been selected for its quality and uniqueness, speaking to the painstaking attention to detail that Gucci creations are known for.
