Karl Lagerfeld handpicked models Mariacarla Boscono and Sarah Brannon to grace the stills for Chanel Fall‑Winter 2016/17 ready‑to‑wear campaign. Styled by Carine Roitfeld, makeup artist Tom Pecheux and hair stylist Sam McKnight the ads feature an artsy cut-and-paste collage design, which is the fresh take on the traditional approach to fashion campaigns.
I was tired of a girl holding a bag. I wanted to have another approach for the ad, and for Chanel’s image. I wanted to make collages. I love collages and I thought the collection was really suitable for collages. I wanted to do something else that we have never done before. It is not an artistic research. It is an inspiration without roots — spontaneous. And making collages with a computer was impossible before. – Karl Lagerfeld
The Chanel Fall‑Winter 2016/17 campaign merges Chanel’s iconic silhouettes and tres chic accessories, such as the bowler hats, with Karl Lagerfeld’s interest for vibrant Pop Art motifs. The fashion house’s signature quilted clothes and timeless pearl strands highlight Mariacarla Boscono and Sarah Brannon over exaggerated cartoon-like makeup that helps to go beyond the boundaries of the traditional vision of fashion campaigns.
The Chanel Fall‑Winter 2016/17 ready-to-wear campaign will be featured in the September issues of international magazines.
