Luxury fashion brand Louis Vuitton launched the second season of the ongoing collaboration with the National Basketball Association (NBA). The Louis Vuitton x NBA collection is showcased in a short film that explores memories of the two companies around the time of the 90’s basketball craze. Men’s Artistic Director Virgil Abloh blends the signature styles of both Louis Vuitton and the NBA in a transversal celebration of pop culture, fashion and sports.
The Louis Vuitton x NBA collection celebrates the unifying moments of the game and its diverse characters. The new capsule reflects the professional basketball player’s wardrobe and includes pieces that are perfect for travel, game, and press conference. It includes pantsuits and bomber jackets adorned with the House’s corporate logo and basketball insignia. Bags featuring basketball-net detailing and NBA symbols from the initial season expand into new forms, while a new line of leather goods have been made with a grain that imitates classic basketball material.
The Larry O’Brien Trophy will once again be presented to the 2021 NBA Finals Champions in a bespoke Louis Vuitton Travel Case. Hand-crafted in the Maison’s historic Asnières Ateliers, the trunk is wrapped in the emblematic Monogram canvas, fitted with traditional brass fixtures, and decorated with the iconic V in white with blue and red details. Inside, the NBA’s official dark blue color lines the case to showcase the Larry O’Brien Championship Trophy.
For the first time, Louis Vuitton has created basketballs, that are available in both a life-size version as well as a small-scale collector’s item with a trunk-inspired hoop. Designed by Virgil Abloh, the limited-edition balls were produced by the official NBA game ball supplier Wilson Sporting Goods Co. in line with the authentic savoir-faire principles of Louis Vuitton.
