Maserati’s first ever SUV called the “Levante” is set to be unveiled during the 2016 Detroit auto show in January, entering the flourishing crossover market.
The first SUV of Maserati is set to be presented at the upcoming Detroit Auto Show scheduled for January 2016. In the same month the Maserati Levante is slated to go under mass production at Mirafiori. The Levante is expected to help boost Maserati sales to 50,000 cars a year globally. The new SUV should give the Italian car manufacturer the funds it needs to keep building luxurious sports cars and opulent sedans. Maserati suffered a 30% loss on its sales sheet, cutting the profits down to 47 million euros, and as the market performance of the company is dwindling, the upcoming Levante will be the best chance for the automaker to reclaim its position.
Maserati Levante is based on the Ghibli platform. The crossover takes its name from the Via Emilia Levante in Bologna, where the Maserati brothers have founded the company that today still bears their name. It won’t come as a surprise that the SUV’s pricing is likely to start at more than 100,000 euros. Details as to what Levante crossover may bring are still fragmentary, but based on other Maserati products, it should be about both performance and luxury. The new vehicle will compete with the Porsche Cayenne, as well as the upcoming Bentley Bentayga and Jaguar F-Pace.
Rumor has it that Maserati Levante could be propelled by petrol V6 350 (261 kW) and 425 hp (317 kW), along with a more full-bodied V8, which would guarantee more than 560 horsepower (417.5 kW). In addition to these would be given diesel unit, in different variants from 250 (186 kW), 275 (205 kW) and 340 horsepower (253.5 kW).
