The latest Montblanc Writers Edition limited edition collection pays tribute to the legacy of Joseph Rudyard Kipling (1865 –1936), the author of The Jungle Book. One of the most popular writers in the United Kingdom in the late 19th and early 20th centuries, Kipling was also the first English-language writer to receive the Nobel Prize in Literature. Crafted in Montblanc Ateliers, the design of the limited edition writing instruments is inspired by The Jungle Book and If, a poem written in the form of paternal advice to a son.
The colorful characters in the Jungle Book are represented through the design of Montblanc Writers Edition Homage To Rudyard Kipling Writers Edition. The matte resin of the cap and barrel in green color matches the color of the cover of the first U.S edition of Kipling’s masterpiece. Clip in the shape of a wolf’s head is inspired by the wolf pack responsible for the upbringing of Mowgli.
Cap ring and cone ring are engraved with words from his poem “If”: “If you can keep your head when all about you are losing theirs…you’ll be a man my son”. Au750 solid gold rhodium coated nib is garnished with a desk globe, representing Kipling’s travels as a travel correspondent and a regular traveller. Initials “RK” featured on the cap of the Fountain Pen, Ballpoint, Rollerball and Mechanical Pencil are copied from an original letter purchased by Montblanc, featuring extremely rare handwritten initials.
Moreover, Montblanc has created a new khaki-colored ink inspired by the jungle, as well as a khaki Italian calfskin notebook featuring a printed design of the wolves.
Montblanc Writers Edition Homage to Rudyard Kipling A Tribute to “If” LE 1895 is a homage to one of Kipling’s most famous poem, If. Limitation of 1895 reflects the year he wrote the famous poem. Tiger pattern of the skeletonized gold-coated overlay on the jungle green resin lacquered barrel is a nod to Shere Khan, the fictional Bengal tiger. Monkeys decorate the cap, while the clip ring depicts the cold lairs, home of the monkeys inspired by the city Chittorgarh that Kipling visited. Au750 solid gold nib features an engraving of the elephant, another character from The Jungle Book.
Limited to 70 pieces, Montblanc Writers Edition Limited Edition 70 pays homage to the writer’s life and accomplishments. Lacquered cap and barrel in red are inspired by the jeweled ankus the human child Mowgli finds in the jungle in The Jungle Book, covered in precious red rubies. Partially rhodium-coated Au750 solid gold overlay depicts bamboo shoots in the jungle with 3-dimensional monkeys climbing around the cap. The eyes of the wolf and the monkeys are set with brown diamonds, while the clip is also embellished with a sparkling brown diamond.
