McLaren Automotive announced that the Spectrum Theme – an extraordinary multi-tone paint finish crafted by the brilliant minds of McLaren Special Operations (MSO), the brand’s in-house bespoke personalization service – is set to be exclusively available on the all-new 750S supercar. MSO’s world-class paint technicians have worked diligently to craft a paint finish that’s unlike anything ever seen before. Developing the theme required the mastery of new techniques, establishing a new generation of McLaren paint specialism, and delivering something genuinely unique and ground-breaking for discerning customers.
What makes the new theme so extraordinary is its technical complexity. With separate shades of color meticulously applied, the paintwork achieves a tonal shift defined by precision craftsmanship. To the naked eye, the closely arranged colors create an illusion of light to dark within each individual stripe, giving the impression of speed and acceleration even when the 750S is stationary.
Michael McDonagh, Director of McLaren Special Operations, describes the Spectrum Theme as a leap forward for the brand, as it perfectly complements the technical advancements of the 750S. The attention to detail is paramount, ensuring that the Spectrum lines seamlessly flow with the incredible bodywork of the car. This fusion of advanced technology and artistic expression exemplifies McLaren’s commitment to delivering the ultimate driving experience.
The Spectrum Theme is presented in three variants: Spectrum Blue, Spectrum Grey, and Spectrum Orange. These captivating colorways can be further personalized with MSO bespoke options, including vibrantly colored leather trim, a dedicated plaque, and hand-painted Spectrum graded effect MSO logos on extended visual carbon fiber door sills.
But the innovation doesn’t stop there. The Spectrum Theme can also be specified in unique colorways designed and delivered by MSO. Achieving these distinct shades requires the formulation of new paints that strike the perfect balance between light and dark tones, creating a seamless color shift.
The intricacy of the new theme was not without its challenges. MSO technicians had to consider every minute detail, from the shut lines to the aerodynamic sculpting of the dihedral doors, ensuring that the Spectrum lines harmoniously integrated with the car’s design.
At the rear of the 750S, the new theme pays homage to the popular Velocity Theme, also offered by MSO. The seventh paint shade elegantly transitions into a gentle Velocity fade, gracefully wrapping around the back of the car. The Blue theme flows from Spectrum Blue to Metallic Aurora Blue, the Orange theme unfolds from Spectrum Orange to the rich Gamma Red Metallic, and the Grey variant shifts from Spectrum Grey to Metallic Meteorite Grey. As a final touch, customers can choose a contrasting color for the underside of the Active Rear Wing, adding an extra touch of individuality to their 750S.
