Extell Development Company unveils NYC’s largest private outdoor garden at One Manhattan Square, the 800-foot-tall tower that offers 100,000 square feet of indoor and outdoor amenity. The modern glass residential building boasts more than an acre of exterior garden space designed by West 8 Urban Design and Landscape Architecture.
Drawing inspiration from squares, parks and urban sanctuaries around the world, the Netherlands-based landscape firm created a range of meaningful garden retreats for residents to relax, work, socialize and play at this vertical village that boasts more landscaped areas than any other development in New York. One Manhattan Square’s gardens are situated on a gradually inclining landscape. Topiary gardens accessed via a sumac meander spiral the tower’s base, providing residents with infinite ways to explore private birch gardens, courtyards, and relaxation spaces.
NYC’s largest private outdoor garden features both active and peaceful spaces surrounded by trees, various plants, lawns and flowers. During the fall season, the Sumac Meander will blossom into an extraordinary collection of bright red and orange leaves. In spring and summer, the garden will have Cherry Blossoms and Azaleas that can be admired from the tea pavilion. For the colder months, Witch-Hazel will give the garden entrance a warming yellow.
One Manhattan Square’s gardens also feature several areas for relaxation and socializing. There are outdoor grilling and dining areas complemented by an outdoor kitchen, ping-pong tables, a birch garden, herb garden, putting green, romantic fire pits, relaxation lawns, social courtyards, Japanese-inspired tea pavilion, stargazing observatory with telescopes, children’s playground, covered dog run, and an adult treehouse on stilts that is accessible via stairs.
The highlight is the wooden adult treehouse which is furnished with red beanbags and round light fixtures.
The children’s playground features several swing sets as well as a foot bridge that connects landscaped surfaces shown in the familiar shapes of Manhattan, The East River and Brooklyn.
Interior amenities are also plentiful and include a spa concentrated around a sunken tranquility garden by West 8 with private treatment rooms and hammam, as well as a multi-level fitness center that features indoor swimming pools, full basketball court, squash court and a yoga studio. Additional amenities include theater and performance spaces, golf simulator, children’s playroom, game room, culinary lounge, wine room, cigar room, cellar bar and demonstration kitchen and a two-lane bowling alley.
One Manhattan Square features architecture by architectural firm Adamson Associates Architects complemented by custom interiors by Meyer Davis Studio.
