The 126-meter motor yacht Octopus which was commissioned and formerly owned by the late Microsoft co-founder Paul Allen, is available for first-time charter and will be traveling to Antarctica in late 2022.
Built by the renowned German shipyard, Lürssen, and designed by the world-famous designer and naval architect Espen Øino, Octopus is one of the largest superyachts in the world. Up until her sale in 2021, she was kept incredibly private with few images of her interior ever released to the public. The superyacht was launched in 2003 and started a trend for vessels to be equipped for science, research, and true ocean-crossing travel. She sports an ice-class 1A steel hull, allowing her to safely traverse the iceberg-filled seas surrounding the southern-most continent. The motor yacht Octopus also boasts an underwater lounge and a forward-facing indoor observation deck.
The yacht features the bridge deck’s vast swimming pool, gym, wellness area, cinema, library, observation lounge, and glass-bottomed aquarium. Octopus can accommodate 12 guests across three decks, and has a master suite with private elevator and observation deck, two VIP apartments, and seven double and three twin staterooms.
Having joined the Camper & Nicholsons charter fleet in 2021, this is the first time Octopus has been available for charter, marking the occasion with a two-year round-the-world tour that began in January. She will cruise to Costa Rica, Panama, South America and will finish her journey in Antarctica in early December 2022. Her voyage is among the first superyacht expeditions to Antarctica. The explorers will discover the least-explored continent on earth and even will be able to ski, enjoy ice exploration, polar plunge, and contribute to wildlife conservation with alongside locally-based scientists. Charter rates start at $2.2 million per week.
