Designer Ralph Lauren opens the Polo Bar restaurant in New York, inspired by classic Manhattan establishments
I’m drawn to the kind of food that people truly enjoy—vibrant food that people want to return to time and again
American designer Ralph Lauren continues to grow his empire with a new New York restaurant dubbed The Polo Bar. Situated next to the Polo Ralph Lauren flagship store on East 55th Street, The Polo Bar is both casual and refined restaurant crammed with equestrian references to reflect the brand’s sporting heritage and signature Polo logo. Designer’s latest dining experience hopes to convey a message closer to his heart: gathering around the dinner table with family and friends.
The traditional New England-style interior of the Polo Bar features a brass-topped bar, parquet flooring and tan leather banquettes and is inspired by old-school New York dining establishments. Downstairs, the main dining room is beautified with equestrian art and a wood panelled ceiling, while there is also a private dining room for up to 14 people. The decor includes a Henry Hoehler polo match-inspired mural, saddle leather seating and equestrian art, as well as iconic Ralph Lauren patterns on throw pillows, cushions and place settings.
The Polo Bar by Ralph Lauren is an elegant venue for classic cocktails and well-executed, simple dishes like oysters, crab cakes, and beef from Lauren’s ranch in Colorado. The restaurant will serve classic American provision, inspired by Ralph Lauren’s favourite dishes, which include steaks, burgers, corned beef sandwiches, crab cakes. The dessert menu features Ralph’s Coffee ice cream, made from the designer’s own custom coffee blend, served at the brand’s coffee shop which opened within the flagship store in September and that we illuminated here.
The Polo Bar is Ralph Lauren’s third restaurant: the Chicago store has boasted its own restaurant since 1999, while a second eatery opened in Paris in 2010.
