In a remarkable display of passion and craftsmanship, Porsche Classic recently unveiled the extraordinary 911 Classic Club Coupe, specially restored for the Porsche Club of America (PCA). This unique vehicle, born from a used 911 Carrera (Type 996) manufactured in 1998, underwent a meticulous two-and-a-half-year restoration process, resulting in a stunning masterpiece that combines vintage charm with modern enhancements. Sold for a staggering $1.2 million USD, this remarkable creation pays homage to Porsche‘s rich heritage while showcasing the possibilities of its innovative “Sonderwunsch” program.
The auction of the 911 Classic Club Coupe took place during the 75th-anniversary celebration of Porsche Cars North America at the Porsche Experience Center in Atlanta, USA. This event witnessed the gathering of 75 rare and remarkable Porsches, including iconic models such as the 1964 904 Carrera GTS, 1984 962, and the 1980 911 SC “Safari” Rally. Private owners offered these collectibles through the esteemed Broad Arrow auction house, creating a memorable event for Porsche enthusiasts.
One of the key inspirations behind the 911 Classic Club Coupe restoration project was the 911 Sport Classic (997) launched in 2009. Limited to only 250 units, this exclusive model was not available for sale in the United States. However, its distinctive features, including the Sport Gray Metallic exterior and Pepita houndstooth seat center panels, were seamlessly incorporated into the 911 Classic Club Coupe during the restoration process.
Furthermore, elements from the yet-to-be-released 911 Sport Classic (992) were utilized in this project. The collaboration between Porsche Classic and the PCA resulted in a captivating blend of design cues from both the classic and contemporary eras, making the 911 Classic Club Coupe a truly one-of-a-kind masterpiece.
The Porsche 911 Classic Club Coupe boasts a breathtaking Sport Grey Metallic paintwork, elegantly complemented by light grey and blue accents. Its double-dome roof, Fuchs rims, and fixed rear spoiler, reminiscent of the iconic 911 Carrera RS 2.7 from 1972, enhance the vehicle’s timeless appeal. Every exterior and interior detail has been meticulously customized, featuring the PCA’s signature Club Blue accents throughout.
Inside, the sports seats and door panels showcase intricate woven leather in a Pepita houndstooth pattern. This combination of classic design and modern craftsmanship creates an atmosphere of luxury and exclusivity, further elevating the driving experience.
The technical transformation of the 911 Classic Club Coupe is just as remarkable as its aesthetic enhancements. Powered by the second-generation 996 GT3’s 3.6-liter engine, the vehicle generates an impressive 280 kW (381 PS) of power. The chassis and brakes have also been sourced from the GT3, ensuring exceptional performance and handling.
