The brainchild of the young Ferdinand Alexander Porsche, this automotive masterpiece has not only weathered the sands of time but has evolved, embodying the timeless truth that standing still is never an option for a sports car manufacturer. From its inception to the present 992 model, each generation of the Porsche 911 has pushed the boundaries of performance on the racetrack and everyday comfort. As the world celebrates the 60th anniversary of this legendary automobile, Porsche Design introduces a remarkable tribute: the Chronograph 1 – 911 S/T Anniversary Edition.
Porsche Design, synonymous with innovation and sophistication, commemorates this milestone with a limited edition Chronograph 1 – 911 S/T timepiece. Limited to just 1,963 watches, a number that pays homage to the year of the iconic 911 S/T‘s inception, this chronograph serves as a bridge between the legendary vehicle and its passionate owners.
Echoing the ethos of the Porsche 911 S/T 2.4 that set hearts racing on the track in 1970, the Chronograph 1 – 911 S/T is meticulously crafted at Porsche’s own watch manufactory in Solothurn, Switzerland. Just as the first Porsche 911 was a design marvel, the Chronograph I was the brainchild of Prof. F. A. Porsche himself. Conceived in 1972 with the mission of creating a timepiece that mirrored the essence of the car, this philosophy of harmony between aesthetics and function continues to shape Porsche Design’s watchmaking endeavors.
The Chronograph 1 – 911 S/T is a visual testament to the storied lineage it celebrates. The lightweight, uncoated, and sandblasted titanium case mirrors the ethos of the Porsche 911 S/T’s lightweight design. The black dial and bezel ring evoke the vintage instruments of the 911 S/T, while a prominent red number “60” on the minute scale commemorates the anniversary. The luminous phosphorescent green elements ensure precise readability, even in darkness, an attribute that resonates with the precision of the Porsche 911 S/T on the racetrack.
Embracing the link between watch and vehicle, a printed gear-shift diagram serves as a nod to the manual special edition, with silver for the Chronograph 1 – 911 S/T and gold for the Chronograph 1 – 911 S/T Heritage. The COSC-certified Porsche Design WERK 01.240 movement with flyback function beats at the heart of this chronograph, mirroring the performance and precision of the Porsche 911 S/T.
The rear of the Chronograph 1 – 911 S/T showcases the intricate movement through a seven-layer antireflective sapphire-crystal case back. The rotor, reminiscent of the 911 S/T’s magnesium alloy wheel, is available in Brilliant Silver, Dark Silver (high gloss), or Black (high gloss). The Heritage version offers a choice of Ceramica (high gloss) or Brilliant Silver with a rotor cap adorned with the historic Porsche Crest.
A finely adjusted folding clasp in uncoated, sandblasted titanium is a testament to the lightweight design concept, aligning with the Porsche 911 S/T’s commitment to performance. With a quick-change mechanism, the leather straps, available in black with GT silver metallic decorative stitching or Classic Cognac, can be swapped effortlessly, ensuring a seamless connection between timepiece and sports car.
Each chronograph arrives with a unique watch plaque bearing the image of the 911 S/T and its individual limitation number, underlining its exclusivity and connection to the legendary vehicle. This embodiment of Porsche’s spirit and heritage will be available for order from Porsche Centers and Porsche Design Stores starting August 2, 2023, at a price of EUR 11,950 (RRP).
