Koenigsegg is developing a production engine that will have a 1.6-liter displacement, four cylinders, and will produce 400 HP
While producing supercars, Christian von Koenigsegg doesn’t forget about cars we drive every day. The company is busy developing innovative camless engines, one of which appeared in a concept for a Chinese family car built by Qoros.
This includes a 1.6-liter four-cylinder that develops 400 horsepower. It will beat the most powerful four-cylinder Mercedes-AMG CLA 45 with its 375-horse 2.0-liter unit. The founder of supercar brand has disclosed that the company’s subsidiary Freevalve is working on a revolutionary piston engine, which is currently at its concept phase.
Most of the technology we’ve developed is about improving efficiency, making the car lighter and more powerful, and it can be used to reduce emissions and fuel consumption. Almost everything we are doing can trickle down to economy cars in mass production.
Koenigsegg has launched a research project investigating the application of their designs to a 1.6-liter engine of Chinese carmaker Qoros that will have the potential to produce 400 horsepower or more. In other words, the same principles with which the company has designed the Agera and Regera engines can be applied to smaller engines.
