The escalating desire for an active and healthy lifestyle is fueling the demand for wellness tourism across the globe that expects to see an annual growth rate of 7.2% by 2030. As a result, resorts are enhancing their wellness experiences to accommodate this demand.
Since the Caribbean’s beautiful beaches and year-round sunshine attract travelers who want to detox and unplug, let’s take a look at the newest wellness experiences that this destination offers.
Banayan Tree Mayakoba (Riviera Maya, Mexico)
Launching in November 2021, Banayan Tree Mayakoba‘s “wellness sanctuary” program will include a 64-point wellness assessment, daily access to wellbeing activities like ocean breath meditation by the sea, pre-sleep bath and body rituals, and nutritious chef-made meals prepared with locally sourced ingredients. Following their stay, guests can also take home a wellbeing guide that includes tips for healthy living, home exercises and other practices to incorporate into their daily lives.
Grand Hyatt Baha Mar (Nassau, Bahamas)
The luxury oceanfront oasis Grand Hyatt Baha Mar is home to the Caribbean’s first and only spa. ESPA Spa offers new Infuz IV Therapy treatments that strengthen mental and physical vitality via a selection of hydrating vitamins, nutrients, and antioxidants customized to meet various needs. For complete serenity, follow up with tranquil oceanfront massages, unique flamingo yoga classes, and a ride down the new lazy river before turning down in a spacious multi-bedroom suite in The Reserve, the resort’s hotel-within-a-hotel concept with a private entrance and 24/7 butler service.
Club Med Michès Playa Esmeralda (Miches, Dominican Republic)
The first and only resort in the undiscovered region of Miches (opened on January 2020 and reopened on June 2021), Club Med Michès Playa Esmeralda offers a luxury wellness experience wrapped in an all-inclusive vacation with a plethora of wellness experiences like treetop yoga, oceanfront spa treatments, and sunset horseback rides on the untouched white sand beach.
Guests can book a room in the adults-exclusive Emerald Jungle village and slip away into the nearby Zen Oasis, a tropical hideaway for rest and relaxation with a naturally-filtered Zen pool, swim-up wellness bar, and cozy hammocks underneath swaying palm trees.
BodyHoliday (Cariblue Beach, Castries, St. Lucia)
The Caribbean’s first destination spa BodyHoliday has launched a new wellness retreat with famed Olympians at the helm, offering an out-of-the-box way to prepare for the indulgent holiday season.
From November 29 to December 17, guests of the beachfront resort can take part in its Pre-Christmas Restorative Break. British Olympic silver medalist and 3x sprinting World champion Jamie Baulch and British Olympic silver medalist for diving Leon Taylor lead the program that helps to prepare the mind and body to make wellness-driven decisions during the holiday season (and beyond). The experience includes daily Beach Fit (a sand workout incorporating bodyweight resistance and cardio); Well Fit Trail experiences (a customizable hiking experience leading guests up into the hills to take in all of the island’s stunning views while participating in an optional obstacle course); interactive juicing with Jamie; weekly champions dinners, and more. Guests also receive daily complimentary spa treatments.
