Entrusting the Coachbuild designers with a profound vision, the client sought an elegant embodiment of the amethyst gem – symbolic of purity, clarity, and resilience, and also the birthstone of their son. This underlying theme reverberates throughout the motor car, entwining every detail with significance. The Rolls-Royce Amethyst Droptail becomes a testament to the client’s meticulous attention to detail, rewarding those who delve into its nuances with a captivating experience.
The inspiration behind the exterior treatment of the Amethyst Droptail draws from the Globe Amaranth wildflower, which blooms resiliently in desert landscapes near one of the patron’s residences. This flower’s delicate journey from bud to bloom is captured in the duotone paint finish of the car. The soft purple hue, aptly named Globe Amaranth, features a silver undertone, accentuated by fine flecks of powdered aluminum, creating a mesmerizing iridescent effect. The upper coachwork showcases a deep purple Amethyst contrast paint, a distinctive mauve hue with a subtle metallic sheen, achieved through a blend of red, blue, and violet mica flakes.
The intricate chevron pattern book-matched along two axes on the carbon fiber construction of the lower sections of the car stands as a testament to two years of development. This complex geometric decoration, combined with a fine layer of Amethyst-tinted lacquer, epitomizes the client’s affinity for understated elegance.

This wood’s hues inspired the creation of Sand Dunes leather, perfectly matched to the caramel strands on the Calamander Light wood. Months of meticulous searching culminated in the acquisition of wood with color bands identical to the leather, showcasing the commitment to perfection.
The extensive application of wood in the interior of the Amethyst Droptail required a novel approach. An innovative veneering process was devised, employing ‘bookmatching’ and ‘slip-matching’ techniques to create a seamless, organic wood grain pattern. The exterior protective coatings, specially designed for the Droptail, were subjected to rigorous testing, ensuring durability in varying climates.
Amethyst gemstones adorn not only the Spirit of Ecstasy figurine but also the rotary dials within the interior. With a focus on subtlety and elegance, these convex cabochon-style gems evoke a sense of refined luxury.
