Rolls-Royce unveils the awe-inspiring Black Badge Cullinan ‘Blue Shadow’ Private Collection, an extraordinary masterpiece that delves into the captivating allure and enigma of space.
In crafting this exceptional work of art, visionary designers at Rolls-Royce have ingeniously sought inspiration from the Kármán Line, an intangible frontier located 62 miles above the Earth’s surface, where the terrestrial atmosphere gracefully yields to the boundless expanse of outer space. In this ethereal realm, where the boundaries between Earth and space blur, the vibrant blue of our terrestrial skies seamlessly transforms into the profound darkness of the cosmos. This mesmerizing interplay gives birth to an intense, dark-blue realm—an enigmatic sanctuary that beckons the select few who possess an adventurous spirit. It is within this captivating and silent world that the essence of Blue Shadow finds its perfect embodiment.
The ‘Blue Shadow’ edition features a stunning ‘Stardust Blue’ exterior paint that captures the mesmerizing hue of Earth’s upper atmosphere. Drawing inspiration from spacecraft materials, the satin-tinted grille surround and aero bumper insert sets pay homage to the thermal tiles shielding Space Shuttles during atmospheric re-entry. The iconic Spirit of Ecstasy emblem is meticulously crafted using 3D printing techniques in titanium, coated with a delicate blue-tinted lacquer that enhances its pearlescent appearance while highlighting the texture of the titanium. Engravings of the Black Badge infinity logo and ‘Blue Shadow’ Private Collection name, filled with Charles Blue, adorn the Spirit of Ecstasy base. The wheels of Blue Shadow are subtly darkened using a translucent lacquer, completing the exquisite exterior aesthetic.
The unique fascia and door panels of the bespoke vehicle showcase a captivating portrayal of this phenomenon through a meticulous painting process. Six layers of paint, comprising five shades of blue and a deep black hue, intertwine to create a mesmerizing three-dimensional effect. Adding further depth and luster, a clear-coat layer is infused with precise amounts of blue and clear glass particles, meticulously measured at exactly 0.05%. The fascia is adorned with a Bespoke clock exclusive to the Private Collection, featuring light blue anodized details and ‘Blue Shadow’ engraving, completing the harmonious ensemble.
Rolls-Royce has introduced a new version of its Starlight Headliner called “Blue Shadow,” which takes the luxury car’s interior to a higher level. The headliner features an intricate Moon embroidery surrounded by a constellation of stars, creating a space-like atmosphere. The Moon’s surface is depicted in three dimensions with various craters using five different colored threads and different techniques, resulting in a unique texture. The embroidery consists of 250,000 stitches and takes two days to complete. The Starlight Headliner overall contains 1,183 stars, with 799 white and 384 blue, individually placed by hand through perforated holes in the leather canvas. The fiber-optic stars twinkle, adding to the headliner’s enchanting glow and overall ambiance.
Front and rear seats showcase a perforated artwork inspired by the Earth’s view from space. The pattern, created through tiny perforations in the leather, creates an impression of dynamic, ever-changing clouds over the continents and oceans. The perforations are made in two different sizes, with smaller ones representing land and slightly larger ones defining the sea, while the blank spaces represent clouds. Each seat contains over 75,000 individually placed perforations, and the pattern underwent an extensive design process of two weeks and five trials to achieve the desired quality. The result is a seamless alignment of the design, ensuring a cohesive and uniform appearance across all four seats.
The perforation pattern extends to the backs of the picnic tables, which, when lowered, feature a Piano Black veneer finish with a glass sparkle effect, reminiscent of the view into the depths of space. Additionally, each table includes the theme text of the collection, inlaid in polished aluminum beneath the top lacquer layer, emphasizing the extraordinary perspective and ability to touch the stars offered by the Blue Shadow experience.
The Rolls-Royce Bespoke Collective has designed a range of distinctive accessories to complement the Black Badge Cullinan Blue Shadow. These include an indoor car cover that mirrors the pattern found on the seats, providing an exclusive touch. For those embarking on journeys, there is a special luggage set that maintains the color scheme of the Private Collection. In addition, clients have the option to commission an exact 1:8 scale replica of their full-size Black Badge Cullinan Blue Shadow. This replica features fully functioning exterior and interior lights, coach doors that open and close, and an interior that faithfully reproduces all the details found in the Collection, including the Bespoke Illuminated Collection Treadplates.
Rolls-Royce’s latest interpretation of the Black Badge Cullinan is limited to a mere 62 examples worldwide, each representing the exact distance in miles from Earth to the illustrious Kármán Line. All 62 models have already been allocated to clients.
