Sales have launched at Beckford House & Tower, two complementary residential buildings on New York’s Upper East Side designed by Studio Sofield. With prices ranging from $2 million to over $20 million, the development’s website is now up, and its first available listings are live at Beckford House and Beckford Tower.
The project’s prewar-inspired design combines classic architectural traditions (i.e. hand-laid bricks, Indiana Limestone, handcrafted ornamentation, traditional apartment layouts pulled right from the playbook of Rosario Candela) with the sleekly sexy interiors Studio Sofield is known for (i.e. Gucci, Tom Ford, YSL). Both buildings – currently under construction at 301 East 81st and 80th Streets respectively – have features just not seen in new buildings: formal separate dining rooms, grand entry parlors, and work from craftsmen and artisans hand selected by Sofield from all over the country, including Vermont Stone Art, Remains Lighting and Nathan Allan Glass Studios.
The boutique Beckford House is a 21-story building that features 32 residences, some with generous terraces and Juliet balconies that open up enviable views of the city’s skyline. With only one, two or three homes per floor, the building offers a choice of two- to five-bedroom homes along with three full-floor penthouses and one extraordinary duplex. The adjacent 72-residence Beckford Tower is a celebration of the stonemason’s craft with 31 floors of hand-carved Brynne Brownstone and Indiana Limestone by Vermont Stone Art. The development features one- to six-bedroom homes including three crowning full-floor penthouses with expansive private terraces.
The design of each residence combines formality and elegant luxury. Beautiful foyers, dining rooms, large living rooms and formal galleries grace most residences, with corner residences providing dual aspect city perspectives. Classical detailing, such as geometric cornicing, herringbone-laid oak flooring and Statuary marble finishes, appear throughout. Ceiling heights across both buildings also soar at a range of nine to 13 feet.
The open living spaces are appointed with custom millwork by Studio Sofield and large windows. The unique eat-in kitchens feature hand-painted Christopher Peacock cabinetry, marble slab countertops and a range of appliances from Sub-Zero and Wolf. The master bathroom suites are outfitted with specially made vanities, concealed storage, enclosed showers, deep Kohler tubs and Lefroy Brooks polished chrome fittings. A four-pipe HVAC system with zoned climate control provides a perfect four-season comfort across each residence. Further convenience is provided by gracious laundry rooms in select residences.
The amenities are incredible and beautiful, including a private lounge and piano bar, an expansive rooftop terrace, fitness center and yoga studio, full equipped game room, children’s playroom designed by Roto and over 3,000 square feet of wellness amenities, including a double-height basketball half-court, fitness center, yoga and training studios and a 65-foot indoor swimming pool.
