Porsche is set to mark a significant milestone at the renowned Goodwood Festival of Speed as it celebrates the event’s 30th anniversary in style. The highlight of the occasion will be the unveiling of the Porsche Vision 357 Speedster, a stunning concept car that pays homage to the iconic Porsche 356. With its impressive design and cutting-edge technology, the all-electric Vision 357 Speedster is based on the acclaimed 718 GT4 e-Performance model. Porsche enthusiasts were treated to a showcase of over 15 new and classic models during the festival, including the legendary 356 No. 1 Roadster and six Le Mans winners.
The Porsche Vision 357 Speedster draws inspiration from the design of the classic 356, combining it with modern technological advancements. As a sister-model to the closed Porsche Vision 357, the concept car adds to the celebrations of Porsche’s anniversary year. Utilizing the electric motors and battery technology from the Mission R, as well as the chassis from the 718 GT4 Clubsport, the Vision 357 Speedster seamlessly blends classic aesthetics with contemporary performance.
The concept car boasts a monolithic body highlighted by a squat, shortened windscreen, characteristic of a speedster. A tonneau cover, reminiscent of open-top sports cars of the past, spans the right side of the vehicle. The driver’s headrest is suspended in the air due to the technically designed carbon roll-over element positioned behind it. Other notable design elements include the charge port door, anchor for the speedster top, and the two-color concept featuring Marble Grey and Grivelo Grey Metallic. The two grey tones pay homage to historic motorsport predecessors, with the front fenders and front wings showcasing the darker Metallic color. Grivelo Grey Metallic also adorns the front wheels, complemented by Miami Blue accents on the quick-release mechanisms of the wrap-around front bonnet.
The anniversary logo on the Vision 357 Speedster proudly displays the numbers “75,” symbolizing Porsche’s milestone, along with the years “1948” and “2023,” rendered in Grivelo Grey Metallic and Miami Blue. The rear wheels feature comic-style unicorns, specially drawn for the concept car, while cameras replace traditional exterior mirrors, providing an aerodynamically optimized shape reminiscent of wings. The rear lights are integrated into a patterned array of points milled directly into the body, and the vertical grille pattern pays homage to the original Porsche model line. Furthermore, the wide track of the vehicle enhances stability, and the 20-inch magnesium wheels with carbon fiber hubcaps and central locks evoke the legendary Porsche 356 A and 356 B with their notable large bolt circle.
Inside the Vision 357 Speedster, the focus is on the driver’s experience. The interior embraces a minimalist approach, providing only essential features tailored for a sporty driving experience. The low-slung seat position exudes a quintessential sporting feel, while the CFRP seat shell is seamlessly integrated into the monocoque. The driver is securely held in place by a six-point seat belt with a Miami Blue belt strap, and the instrument cluster sits transparently atop the steering column. The racing steering wheel and lightweight impact absorber further enhance the sporty aesthetics.
Accentuating the exterior’s Miami Blue color, the individual controls adorn the interior, which is finished in a carbon-weave texture. Innovative details include Miami Blue straps to secure accessories in place of a conventional glove compartment and simple fabric straps replacing traditional door handles, adding a weight-saving touch inspired by the racing environment.
