American company SubSea Explorers offers a unique opportunity to embark in a miniature submarine. Explore the Roman ancient ship wreckage near Panarea Island in the Aeolian Islands off the northern coast of Sicily
The fusion of Italian beauty, traditional charm and ancient archaeological sights, Sicily is loaded with things to see and places to go. Being the largest island in the Mediterranean, and the largest region in Italy, it is a unique area where Phoenicians, Greeks, Romans, Arabs, Normans, French, Germans, Spanish and Italians have created an exclusive collective heritage. Its 3000 year-old history made Sicily an island-museum and this summer it can be explored from the inside. The deep-sea inside to be exact. American company SubSea Explorers, the non-profit Aurora Trust and U-Boat Worx, a Dutch manufacturer of submarines, present a chance to research a wealth of Sicilian history in miniature submarines.
SubSea Explorers sea adventure makes it possible to become part of an archaeological team and even take some artifacts from the sea bottom that later might be shown in regional exhibitions. The exclusive program offers to explore Roman shipwrecks that have been lost for over 2000 years. Along with an archaeologist and a pilot the participant will board the C-Explorer 3 mini sub, which can dive to a depth of 1,000 feet.
Supervised by the Superintendent of the Seas of Sicily, Dr. Sebastiano Tusa, the 2015 SubSea Explorers program will be carried out near Panarea Island in the Aeolian Islands off of the northern coast of Sicily. As several Roman or Greek shipwrecks were discovered in this area recently, the program participants will be among the first tourists to see stunning relics.
The SubSea Explorers luxury program features eight one-week missions that will take place beginning June 20 and running until August 21 but should be booked by the end of April. During the week, the participants will be offered to reside on an all-inclusive basis in a villa for $19,700 per guest. The villa is located on the island where the sub is based. Yacht chartering option will cost $145,000, but promises to be a memorable once-in-a-lifetime experience. All yacht guests may participate in the one week undersea exploration program and participants will be given an opportunity to select the perfect vessel. The last program offers the possibility to stay on participant’s own yacht while joining the exploration missions.
