The automotive world is on the cusp of a transformative era, marked by electrification, digitalization, and a commitment to circularity. Leading the charge is the BMW Group, unveiling their latest design concept, the BMW Vision Neue Klasse. With a vision that merges innovation in electrification, digitalization, and sustainability, BMW is poised to shape the next generation of vehicles.
The BMW Vision Neue Klasse embodies a design philosophy that celebrates simplicity and elegance. The exterior is characterized by expansive surfaces and minimalistic lines, emphasizing iconic features like the BMW kidney grille and the Hofmeister kink of the side window graphic. The result is a design that feels quintessentially BMW yet boldly futuristic. The luminous exterior paint in “Joyous bright,” with subtle yellow undertones, exudes a friendly and forward-thinking personality.
Sustainability is at the heart of the Neue Klasse. Its fully-electric drive train incorporates the sixth-generation BMW eDrive technology, boasting 30% more range, 30% faster charging, and 25% more efficiency. This substantial technological leap not only enhances the driving experience but also significantly reduces the carbon footprint across the vehicle’s lifecycle.
BMW’s commitment to circularity extends beyond the drivetrain. The Neue Klasse incorporates a higher percentage of secondary raw materials and reduces material variety, optimizing recycling and resource efficiency. A fresh interpretation of signature design elements, such as the BMW kidney grille and double headlights, elevates the interaction between the vehicle and its user through intuitive lighting effects and precise animations.
Inside, the next generation of BMW iDrive offers a seamless blend of digital and physical interaction. Analog controls have been minimized in favor of the BMW Panoramic Vision, the Central Display, and multifunction steering wheel buttons. This modern interpretation of driver orientation enhances the user experience, allowing both the driver and front passenger to interact with information displayed on the BMW Panoramic Vision.
The Panoramic Vision, available for the first time in the Neue Klasse, projects information across the entire width of the windshield, creating a shared user experience. Customizable My Modes, like ‘Sport,’ tailor the user experience, while integrated software architecture consolidates data, ensuring a new level of mobility perception.
The interior of the Neue Klasse is designed with sustainability in mind. Bright cord fabrics, a light-colored instrument panel, and a flattened steering wheel create a comfortable atmosphere. The front seats, attached to the floor by a single bracket, maximize rear legroom. The interior design avoids decorative chrome or leather, further optimizing the production process’s carbon footprint.
The Neue Klasse will be manufactured at a new plant in Debrecen, Hungary, entirely without fossil fuels, reducing CO2 emissions. A focus on resource-efficient individual mobility, including optimized weight, air resistance, rolling resistance, and intelligent heat management for the electric drivetrain, contributes to high energy efficiency during vehicle use.
In the BMW Vision Neue Klasse, the BMW Group presents a holistic approach to the future of sustainable mobility. Electrification, digitalization, and circularity converge to create a vehicle that promises locally emission-free driving, reduced carbon footprint, and an enhanced user experience.
