In the heart of Speyside, where the rolling hills embrace the art of whisky-making, The Glen Grant Single Malt Scotch Whisky has unveiled a true masterpiece of craftsmanship and dedication: The Glen Grant Devotion. This extraordinary 70-year-old single malt whisky stands as a testament to the distillery’s 180 years of excellence and pays tribute to the remarkable reign of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II. As one of the most anticipated releases in recent memory, The Glen Grant Devotion is poised to captivate whisky enthusiasts and collectors worldwide.
The story of The Glen Grant Devotion begins with a single French oak butt seasoned with oloroso sherry, filled in 1953 at The Glen Grant distillery. Over seven decades, this whisky matured, developing an unparalleled character. The result is a whisky that showcases deep chestnut hues and a definitive floral aroma, marked by notes of intense barley sugar and ripe peach, giving way to a symphony of honeyed sweetness. On the palate, it entices with rich dried fruits, including raisins and sultanas, accompanied by a delicate interplay of dry spice and oak. At a high strength of 55.5% ABV, The Glen Grant Devotion exemplifies the exceptional aging potential of The Glen Grant’s whiskies.
The creation of The Glen Grant Devotion was a collaborative labor of love, involving Master Distiller Dennis Malcolm OBE, the distillery team, renowned craftsman John Galvin, and hot glass master Brodie Nairn of GLASSTORM. Only seven of these exceptional hand-blown decanters were meticulously crafted, ensuring each one is a unique masterpiece.
Each decanter takes the shape of a mesmerizing gem, with seven facets representing each decade of maturation and the seven decades of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II’s reign. Adorned with a silver capsule featuring individually meaningful floral engravings, these decanters are a true celebration of a life of inspiration. Nestled within a wooden sculpture handcrafted from a fallen elm tree discovered within the distillery gardens, the intricate woven design on the sculpture’s silver diameter pays homage to Her Majesty’s favorite flower, the Lily of the Valley, and features the proud Thistle of Scotland.
To honor Her Majesty’s commitment to nature, decanter Number One will be auctioned exclusively by Sotheby’s in an online sale running from September 11th to 22nd, 2023. What makes this particular decanter truly exceptional is that it bears The Queen Elizabeth Rose, named in Her Majesty’s honor, and is engraved in gold. Accompanying it are bespoke hand-blown glasses, mirroring the seven facets on the decanter. Most importantly, 100% of the proceeds from the auction will be donated to the Royal Scottish Forestry Society, an organization Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II once served as Patron. This donation will further the Society’s efforts to preserve Scotland’s native woodlands, including a new planting site in Speyside.
Following the auction of decanter Number One, the remaining six decanters will be made available for sale in select global markets, including the United States and Asia, starting in October 2023. As for the price, it will be available upon request, reflecting the rarity and prestige of The Glen Grant Devotion.
