Gucci spotlights Alessandro Michele’s finest collection in its newest Cosmogonie campaign. After being with the House since January 21st, 2015, the Italian fashion designer has stepped down as Creative Director of Gucci.
The Gucci Cosmogonie collection was presented against the backdrop of the historic Castel del Monte in Italy. The show brought together aesthetics from distant eras and geographies, and linked elements from the past with the present.
In Gucci Cosmogonie campaign, a constellation is set in orbit. It connects the extreme realism of Flemish Renaissance portraiture with an imaginary rendering of a vibrant skyscape. The defining props of poets, scholars, astronomers, philosophers, and mathematicians placed throughout hint at the countless inspirations woven through the collection. This connective structure illuminates the poetic fête of colors, silhouettes, and references. The collection features sixteenth-century ruffs, Victorian-inspired boots, silhouettes from the forties, 1970s optical patterns, the new Aphrodite bag, and more.
The new Aphrodite is a crescent-shaped shoulder bag that draws inspiration from the House’s archives. It is crafted in soft leather and features the Double G emblem – a code originally introduced in the 1970s. During the Gucci Cosmogonie fashion show, new constellations of House codes were presented. The classic Gucci T-shirt is reconfigured into a starry night with the constellation print seen throughout the collection.
