53 West 53 is a condominium tower designed by Pritzker Prize-winning architect Jean Nouvel with interiors by the legendary Thierry Despont. Rising 82 stories above the Museum of Modern Art in the heart of Midtown, the building features 161 residences including full-floor homes and duplex penthouses with private elevators. One of its lavish homes, a brand-new duplex penthouse that was designed in collaboration with ELLE DECOR, will be featured in the March print issue of the magazine (on newsstands the last week of February).

The NYC-inspired residence features interiors by Fox-Nahem Associates and comprises the entire 76th and 77th floors of the 53 West 53 tower. Spanning 7,973 square feet, the home has four bedrooms and three-and-a-half bathrooms. Joe Nahem, principal of the New York-based firm, drew inspiration for Penthouse 76, from the grand ceiling heights, spectacular views from every room, and Thierry Despont’s bespoke finishes. The residence is garnished with museum-quality artwork from the renowned Pace Gallery. Fox-Nahem worked with world-class brands, including Pucci, Holly Hunt, Scavolini, Phillip Jeffries, and many others, to furnish the home.
The elevator brings residents to a gracious private entry foyer. a gracious private entry foyer that connects both sides of the lower level and, to the left, leads into Penthouse 76’s double-height great room. Featuring three walls of floor-to-ceiling windows framing panoramic Central Park views, this space also boasts an 11-foot wide gas fireplace clad in limestone; a towering clay installation by Peter Lane; a chic custom bar by Amuneal; and multiple seating areas by Vladamir Kagan.
The formal corner dining room incorporates several furniture pieces including a custom dining table and chairs by Patrick Naggar; a custom pendant light by John Koga; and an art installation by Studio Hoon Kim. The windowed custom kitchen by Thierry Despont for Molteni has statuary marble countertops, a backlit backsplash, and a suite of appliances by Miele and Sub-Zero. A breakfast table custom-designed by Elyse Graham adds a refined touch to this space.
The centerpiece of a generous bedroom is a statement Campana Brothers Grinza Bed. Adjacent to the bedroom is an en-suite bathroom clad in high-honed Verona limestone with polished nickel Dornbracht fixtures.
A south-facing lounge features a custom bar by Scavolini; luxurious seating options from Atra; and a discrete office nook garnished with a textural silver-toned wall installation by Chapter & Verse. The level’s hallways are decorated with artwork from Pace Gallery.

Accessible either via the dramatic interior staircase or the private interior elevator, the 77th floor features the 1,300-square-foot primary suite; a large walk-in closet custom designed by Scavolini; and an oversized en suite bath with radiant heated floors and south- and east-facing exposures. The primary bathroom features two separate custom-carved vanities with automated mirrors, a cast iron Lefroy Brooks soaking tub, a freestanding steam shower, a private water closet with a commode and bidet, and a linen closet. An additional bedroom on this level offers south- and west-facing views and a windowed en-suite bath clad in high-honed Verona limestone with polished nickel Dornbracht fixtures. This level is also home to a stylish TV room and a windowed library nook.
