For the DEFY Extreme Carl Cox limited edition, ZENITH drew inspiration from one of the most essential tools in Carl Cox’s arsenal: the turntable. The watch’s design cues reflect the aesthetics of Carl Cox’s favorite set of turntables. Notably, the case is crafted in matte-finished stainless steel and yellow gold, giving it a bright and sparkling appearance while exuding a nostalgic retro-futuristic vibe.
The yellow gold accents on the dodecagonal bezel and pusher guards are a nod to the turntable stylus’ golden tonearm. The open dial, where the mixing magic happens, features three black chronograph counters that resemble miniature vinyl records, complete with concentric grooves that capture and reflect light as if they were spinning. The minute track, adorned with perfectly aligned dots, pays homage to the stroboscope effect found on the sides of Carl Cox’s beloved turntables. At 12 o’clock, the power reserve indicator takes the form of an ON/OFF switch, adding to the watch’s musical inspiration.
Visible through the open dial and the sapphire case back is the El Primero 9004 calibre. It holds the title of the world’s fastest and only serially produced chronograph movement with a high-frequency 50Hz chronograph, offering precise 1/100th of a second time measurements. In a special touch for the DEFY Extreme Carl Cox limited edition, the star-shaped oscillating weight and main plate are beautifully decorated in black.
The DEFY Extreme Carl Cox limited edition comes with an integrated matte-finished steel bracelet, a black rubber strap, and a black Velcro strap. Changing the strap is a breeze thanks to the watch’s built-in quick strap-change mechanism, allowing you to adapt your timepiece to any occasion.
